Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows (arm) complained of right upper-arm inflammation during his last Grapefruit League game on Saturday and is currently being treated daily and will be re-evaluated for baseball activities later this week. Meadows should be considered day-to-day, and he could get back into spring training games early next week if he resumes baseball activities this weekend. It was a first half to forget last year for the 25-year-old after he was sent to the minors and then missed a month with a hamstring strain. He was very productive down the stretch, though, and should open the 2025 season as the Tigers' starting center fielder. The former second-round pick in 2018 had a .244/.310/.433 slash line with nine homers, 28 RBI and nine steals in 82 games in 2024 and is ranked just inside the top-50 fantasy outfielders at RotoBaller.

Chicago Cubs right-hander Javier Assad (oblique), who was the presumed fifth starter for much of the winter, has been sidelined in camp with a left-oblique strain and could need to open the 2025 regular season on the injured list, according to The Athletic's Sahadev Sharma. Assad could start throwing off the mound this week, but there might not be any reason to push him to make the Opening Day roster if the Cubs like what they see from right-handers Ben Brown and Colin Rea and lefty Jordan Wicks. Assad, 27, was successful in his transition from a reliever to a starter last year, going 7-6 with a 3.73 ERA (4.64 FIP) and 1.40 WHIP with a career-high 124 strikeouts and 63 walks in 147 innings over 29 starts. However, the spike in innings in a starting role could still be taking its toll, and his lack of swing-and-miss stuff gives him a low fantasy floor in fantasy leagues.

With Chicago Cubs right-hander Javier Assad (oblique) potentially opening the season on the injured list, right-hander Ben Brown is competing with Colin Rea and Jordan Wicks for the No. 5 starting rotation spot to open the 2025 campaign. Brown dealt with a nagging neck injury that ended his season early in 2024, but the injury is behind him now. "Very pleased with how Ben looks and feels. No restrictions. Go after it and see where we're at," manager Craig Counsell said. Over his final 53 2/3 innings, the 25-year-old had a 2.68 ERA with a 30% strikeout rate and 8.1% walk rate. And of his 15 outings in 2024, eight were starts. If Brown makes the rotation, he'll have the best swing-and-miss stuff on the staff. Working against Brown, though, is the fact that he has minor-league options left, so the Cubs could opt to send him to Triple-A Iowa and keep him stretched out.

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio is expected to see time in center field during the 2025 campaign. Chourio received the starting nod in center field during Tuesday's spring training contest and will likely continue to see starts during the spring. If the budding star performs well during the rest of camp, fantasy managers should expect him to see occasional time in center field during the regular season. Last summer, Chourio made his MLB debut and split time in right and left field. However, when moving up through the minors, he did see time in center field. Across 148 contests, the 20-year-old posted a .275/.327/.464 line with 21 home runs and 22 stolen bases. Given his ability to contribute to all five standard categories, he is viewed as a high-upside No. 2 OF in all formats.

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Tyler Black (back) was able to hit off a tee earlier on Tuesday. He is hoping to return to participate in spring training contests next week. Black is currently fighting for a spot on the Opening Day roster. The 24-year-old made his MLB debut last season. Across a brief 18-game stint, the Wright State University product held a .204/.316/.245 slash line with two doubles and a 7:17 BB:K ratio. He swiped three bags. Through 102 contests at Triple-A last season, Black posted a solid .258/.374/.429 line with 14 doubles and 14 home runs. He swiped 20 bags and held an impressive 61:87 BB:K ratio. When healthy, Black will compete for a depth role in the infield alongside Oliver Dunn, Jake Bauers, and Andruw Monasterio.
