Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Andrew Abbott (illness/shoulder) returned to camp on Sunday. The left-handed pitcher was absent earlier in the week for two days due to this illness. In addition, Abbott is also dealing with a left shoulder strain. He has not been scheduled to face live hitters, but seeing him move past this illness is a good sign. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he could be cleared in the coming weeks. Abbott sustained this injury at the end of the 2024 campaign and faced a few setbacks during his offseason throwing program. Across 138 innings last season, Abbott posted a 3.72 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. He tallied a modest 114 punchouts and a low 34.7 percent ground-ball rate. When he does return to the bump, he will compete for one of the final spots in the rotation alongside Graham Ashcraft and Carson Spiers.

New York Mets infield prospect Luisangel Acuna is expected to have a more significant role with second baseman Nick Madrigal (shoulder) sidelined. Madrigal suffered a dislocated shoulder during Sunday's spring training contest and could miss the start of the regular season. This now opens the door for Acuna to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster and a consistent role in the starting lineup. Acuna made his MLB debut late in the 2024 season and held his own across a 14-game stint. He posted a .308/.325/.641 line with two doubles, three home runs, and one stolen base. He was also placed on the postseason roster. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Acuna's development as he will likely slot in as the backup option behind Jeff McNeil at the keystone and Francisco Lindor at shortstop. However, if he continues to perform well, he may earn the starting job at second base.

Minnesota Twins outfielder Austin Martin is expected to primarily play in the outfield during spring training. Last season, Martin spent most of his time in the outfield but did see occasional starts at second base. Throughout the early part of spring training games, Martin has served as the team's center fielder. Manager Rocco Baldelli noted that he wants Martin to be a "defensive star out there." The 25-year-old is currently fighting for a spot on the Opening Day roster. Last season, Martin spent most of his season in the majors but had a brief stint with Triple-A. Across his first 93 MLB contests, Martin posted a .253/.318/.352 slash line. He tallied 18 doubles and swiped seven bags. He will compete alongside Willi Castro and Harrison Bader for a depth role in the Minnesota outfield during camp.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Zyhir Hope has hit a double and a home run across his first four spring training contests. He has held a .250/.333/.750 line. On Saturday afternoon, Hope launched a solo shot to the opposite field against the Kansas City Royals. While fantasy managers should not expect Hope to make his MLB debut for several seasons, he is developing into one of the top prospects in the Dodger system. MLB Pipeline ranks Hope as the No. 11 prospect in the system. The 20-year-old was selected in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He was given a brief look in the Rookie League that season and held a .286/.419/.543 line across 11 games. Last summer, Hope spent most of the season with Single-A, where he held a .287/.415/.490 across 54 contests. If he continues to perform well in spring training, he may open the season with High-A.

Chicago White Sox shortstop prospect Colson Montgomery went 1-for-2 with a two-run shot during his spring debut on Saturday afternoon. He struck out in his other at-bat. Montgomery is considered the No. 39 best prospect in the sport on MLB Pipeline. Montgomery was selected with the 22nd overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft out of Southridge HS. Last summer, Montgomery spent the entire campaign at the Triple-A level. The infielder struggled at times as he held a .214/.329/.381 line across 130 contests. However, he did enjoy a strong finish as he posted a .267/.357/.458 line with 10 long balls during the final month of the campaign. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his development during camp, as he could contend for a spot on the Opening Day roster if he performs well during spring training.
