Luisangel Acuna Exits Early On Saturday

New York Mets infield prospect Luisangel Acuna (arm) exited Saturday's contest after being hit by a pitch on his left arm. He was hit by Tampa Bay Rays left-handed pitcher Shane McClanahan in the second frame. The young infielder was able to swipe second base before being pulled from the contest. Fantasy managers should monitor his status as the team could have removed him out of precaution. Earlier in the week, infielder Nick Madrigal (shoulder) underwent surgery to repair his fractured shoulder which will keep him sidelined for the entire season. Acuna is expected to have a more significant role in camp with Madrigal's injury, but Acuna now may have to remain sidelined for a period of time. Last season, Acuna made his MLB debut and posted a strong .308/.325/.641 line across 14 games. When healthy, he will compete for starts at the keystone alongside Jeff McNeil.

Luisangel Acuna Set For Expanded Role

New York Mets infield prospect Luisangel Acuna is expected to have a more significant role with second baseman Nick Madrigal (shoulder) sidelined. Madrigal suffered a dislocated shoulder during Sunday's spring training contest and could miss the start of the regular season. This now opens the door for Acuna to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster and a consistent role in the starting lineup. Acuna made his MLB debut late in the 2024 season and held his own across a 14-game stint. He posted a .308/.325/.641 line with two doubles, three home runs, and one stolen base. He was also placed on the postseason roster. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Acuna's development as he will likely slot in as the backup option behind Jeff McNeil at the keystone and Francisco Lindor at shortstop. However, if he continues to perform well, he may earn the starting job at second base.

Luisangel Acuna Hitting Well In Winter Ball

New York Mets infield prospect Luisangel Acuna had a successful showing in the majors late in the season, posting a .308/.325/.641 slashline with a .406 wOBA and 166 wRC+ in 40 plate appearances. Now, the 22-year-old has continued hitting well in the Venezuelan Winter League for the Cardenales de Lara. Through 19 games, the Mets' 12th-ranked prospect is slashing .375/.455/.500 with 12 stolen bases over 67 plate appearances. While winter league competition doesn't serve as a measuring stick in determining how one would fare versus major league pitching, it is encouraging to see after the speedster was slashing just .258/.299/.355 in Triple-A prior to his MLB call-up. With a healthy Francisco Lindor and offseason transactions yet to take place, it's no certainty that Acuna will be on the Mets opening day roster, but should he earn himself a spot, he would be an intriguing fantasy option that has both good pop and great speed.
