Cleveland Guardians first base prospect C.J. Kayfus went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI on Wednesday evening. This was the second time this week that the 22-year-old tallied two long balls in the same game. Kayfus recently moved up to Double-A and has performed very well with a .371/.474/.758 slash line with six home runs, 21 RBI, and a 10:19 BB:K ratio through 18 games. The Miami product has progressed through the lower levels of the minor leagues rather quickly, as he is now just two stops away from the majors after just joining the Cleveland system in the third round of last year's draft. Kayfus is a name to keep a close eye on in dynasty leagues, as he is showcasing elite power and could reach the majors as soon as next summer.

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen (hamstring) could come off the injured list to start Saturday's game against the Oakland Athletics if all goes well with his bullpen session on Thursday. Gallen has already thrown a few simulated games, and Thursday's bullpen will be his second. So if the 28-year-old gets through Thursday without any issues, he'll be an option to return to Arizona's starting rotation this weekend in an excellent matchup that fantasy managers won't be able to pass on despite the fact that Gallen hasn't thrown in a game since May 30, when he was removed after just pitches due to his hamstring injury. Without going on a minor-league rehab assignment to build his pitch count up, though, Gallen's fantasy upside in his first start back in the big leagues will be limited.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are confident that catcher Gabriel Moreno (thumb) will have a minimum stint on the 10-day injured list, according to manager Torey Lovullo. Moreno still has boxes to check off with his sprained left thumb, notably catching right-hander Zac Gallen's (hamstring) bullpen session on Thursday and playing an Arizona Complex League game over the weekend. He has been hitting off a tee and playing catch. Barring a setback the rest of this week, Moreno is in line to come off the IL for the start of a series in Los Angeles against the division-rival Dodgers next Tuesday. Tucker Barnhart and Jose Herrera have stepped up with Moreno hurt, with Barnhart getting starter's reps. Lovullo said on Tuesday that catching is the bigger hurdle for Moreno than hitting, specifically the ability to square up pitches.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will go with starting pitchers Martin Perez, Paul Skenes and Bailey Falter, in that order, for their three-game series this weekend against the Atlanta Braves that stars on Friday. It means that rookie right-hander Jared Jones won't make a start at all this week. There's no word of any injury for Jones. However, general manager Ben Cherington previously said while the Pirates don't plan to shut Jones or Skenes down at any point this year, both pitchers will have their respective workloads managed to some degree as the season unfolds. It appears that's what Pittsburgh is doing with the 22-year-old Jones this week. Jones has already thrown 86 innings over his first 15 major-league starts and he's next lined up to face the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals next week. He's held his own with a 3.66 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 26.5% strikeout rate.

Seattle Mariners right-hander George Kirby proved in his start on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays that he can have success while making changes on the fly. Kirby decided he didn't like the action on his curveball and how it worked against right-handers, so on Tuesday he decided to change his grip for the pitch. He took it into his start on Wednesday, throwing it just six times, but he got five swings on it, including two whiffs, two foul balls and a ground-out. Kirby used all five of his pitches to deliver his 10th quality start of the year, giving up one run on four hits while walking one and striking out seven in six innings of work. He's allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last six outings, posting a 1.70 ERA in that span. In 37 innings pitched over that time, he's struck out 40 and walked only three. The 26-year-old is in the zone right now and is a must-start in fantasy.
