Tommy Pham Claimed By The Royals

Free agent outfielder Tommy Pham has been claimed by the Kansas City Royals, according to Katie Woo of The Athletic. Pham was DFA'd by the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, only a month after acquiring him at the trade deadline. Pham posted a mere .208/.286/.368 slash line with two home runs across his 23-game stint in St. Louis. However, earlier this summer with the White Sox, the veteran held a solid .266/.330/.380 line. Fantasy managers should expect the 36-year-old to see most of his starts in right field and will likely compete with switch-hitter Robbie Grossman for playing time. Managers in deeper leagues should consider adding Pham as he could earn a stable spot in the starting nine and should produce solid counting stats batting in the heart of a competing Royals lineup.

Reid Detmers Set To Be Recalled From Triple-A

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers is set to be promoted from Triple-A Salt Lake according to Russell Dorsey of Yahoo Sports. Detmers made 12 starts at the major league level this summer but struggled with a 6.14 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP through 63 innings of work. At Triple-A this season, the southpaw has been on an impressive run as he sits with a stellar 1.29 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP across his past three outings. Overall, in 78 frames at Triple-A, the former first-round selection has held a 5.54 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. Deeper league managers should consider taking a flier on Detmers as he has flashed a high upside at times, but should be careful when deploying him because he has struggled to maintain consistency throughout his professional career.

Liam Hendriks Set To Pitch Again On Sunday, Nearing Major League Return

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks (elbow) is set to make another rehab appearance on Sunday and could return to the major leagues as early as the first or second week of September, according to MLB.com. Hendriks underwent Tommy John surgery last August and has looked quite sharp through his first innings of rehab work. The right-hander logged one shutout inning at Double-A and has recently moved up to Triple-A, where he has tossed three innings of one-hit ball. The 35-year-old is likely to take on a high-leverage role when he returns to the major leagues and should see plenty of save opportunities down the stretch as Boston remains in the Wild Card race. Fantasy managers looking to find more saves on the waiver wire should consider stashing Hendriks as he nears the end of his rehab assignment.

Kristian Campbell Not Expected To Join Major League Roster

Boston Red Sox second base prospect Kristian Campbell is not expected to join the major league roster when the rosters expand over the weekend according to Christopher Smith. The 22-year-old has progressed through the minor leagues incredibly this season. He opened the summer by getting his first extended look at High-A and needed just 40 games to move up to Double-A. Through 56 games at Double-A Portland, the Georgia Tech product posted a stellar .362/.463/.582 line. Campbell then got the call to Triple-A Worcester, where he currently carries a .303/.410/.606 line through his first eight games. Campbell remains one of the top prospects in the Boston system and should spend most of next summer in the major leagues, given his current pace.

Tyler Soderstrom Could Hit Off Pitching Machine This Weekend

Oakland Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom (wrist) could begin hitting foam balls off a pitching machine this weekend according to Oakland manager Mark Kotsay. Soderstrom was hitting off a tee earlier this week so his progression to being able to hit off a pitching machine, even if it is just foam balls, marks a positive sign for the 22-year-old. The lefty has been out of action since July 9th with a stress reaction in his left wrist. As of now he has no official timetable to return to action. With the A's out of playoff contention it may also be in Oakland's best interest to take their time with Soderstrom. Fantasy managers in need of help at first base may want to consider Seth Brown, who is hitting for an .839 OPS in the second half of the season and would be a sneaky add for the fantasy playoffs.
