Michael Wacha Hits The 15-Day Injured List

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Michael Wacha (foot) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left foot fracture. As a result, Daniel Lynch IV will take Wacha's spot in the rotation. Wacha said he never felt any pain on the mound but did feel sore after his most recent start on Friday May 31. The 32-year-old posted a 4.24 ERA and 1.25 WHIP across 68 innings this season and is likely to miss an extended period of time. Lynch has made two starts this season and has looked quite strong with a 1.50 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, and an 8:2 K:BB ratio through 12 innings. He is worth a look in AL-only formats in favorable matchups.

CJ Abrams Scratched From Sunday’s Lineup

Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams (shoulder) was scratched from Sunday's lineup with shoulder soreness. The budding superstar was in the starting lineup on Sunday but was removed late as he did not respond well to some pregame work in the batting cage. The 23-year-old is still considered day-to-day and could return to the starting lineup on Monday. Ildemaro Vargas will once again slot in as the starting shortstop for the second consecutive day and bat in the nine-hole. Vargas could be a sneaky play in DFS this afternoon as he faces right-hander Carlos Carrasco, who enters this game with a high 5.16 ERA.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Returns To Starting Lineup

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (illness) is starting at left field and will bat third on Sunday. Gurriel was scratched from Saturday's lineup with an illness but is already cleared to return. The 30-year-old has posted a disappointing .236/.276/.366 line with six home runs and three stolen bases across 53 games this season. However, he was riding a four-game hitting streak prior to Saturday and looks as if he is returning to form. Gurriel should remain in your fantasy lineup all season and has a great matchup this afternoon and is worth consideration in DFS as he faces southpaw Jose Quintana who holds a 1-5 record with a 5.06 ERA.

David Bote Promoted And Starting In Series Finale

Chicago Cubs third baseman David Bote was promoted to the major-league roster earlier on Sunday and is in the starting lineup as the Cubs hope to clinch a series victory over the division-rival Cincinnati Reds. In a corresponding move, the Cubs sent down infielder Nick Madrigal to Triple-A Iowa. Bote showcased his home run ability in the minors by launching seven long balls and posting a .546 slugging percentage across 28 games for Iowa. On Sunday afternoon, Bote will cover the hot corner and bat eighth. Madrigal posted a poor .221 average and had some struggles defensively, which resulted in his demotion. Bote is worth monitoring in NL-only formats, as he could carve out a stable role in a Cubs lineup that has been struggling over the past few weeks. Bote will face southpaw Nick Lodolo on Sunday and should be faded in DFS lineups.

Sixto Sanchez Headed To The 15-Day Injured List

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday with right shoulder inflammation. While the extent of the injury is unknown, the 25-year-old should be expected to remain sidelined for an extended period of time. Sanchez returned to the major leagues earlier this season after a four-year absence and struggled with a 6.06 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and 14:17 BB:K ratio. This injury leaves a hole in the Marlins rotation that could be filled by relief pitcher A.J. Puk or even prospect Max Meyer, who opened the season on the major league roster. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to who slides in as the fifth-man in the rotation as they could be worth adding in deeper leagues.
