As expected, the New York Mets activated outfielder Starling Marte from the bereavement list on Tuesday and optioned infielder Mark Vientos to Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move. However, Marte won't make the start on Tuesday versus the visiting Chicago Cubs, with DJ Stewart in right field and batting seventh against Cubs right-hander Javier Assad. The 35-year-old Marte will miss his fourth straight game but should be back in the lineup on Wednesday for the Mets. He's managed to stay healthy so far this year and is hitting a strong .288 (30-for-104) with four home runs, 12 RBI, six stolen bases and 16 runs scored in his first 25 games. Stewart has never faced Assad in his career and is hitting just .200 so far with three home runs for the Mets.

New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (shoulder) threw to live hitters on Monday for the first time since doctors diagnosed him with a torn posterior shoulder capsule in February. "Nasty," one of the minor-league hitters said after facing Senga, who threw all his pitches and reached the mid-90s with his fastball. The Japanese hurler said afterward that he expects to return from the injured list "right around" the day he's first eligible on May 27. President of baseball operations David Stearns pushed back slightly on that timeline, but regardless, Senga's session on Monday has to have fantasy managers that have been stashing him all this time a little giddy. After his initial diagnosis, Senga went a full month without throwing at all, so the Mets aren't going to rush their fantasy ace back by any means.

New York Mets shortstop prospect Luisangel Acuna hit his second home run of the season on Sunday for Triple-A Syracuse. The 22-year-old went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in Game 2 of a doubleheader, while the home run was his first since the first game of the season. Not known as much for his power as his older brother, he does still have some wheels, swiping 57 bags last season, and is up to eight so far in 2024. MLB's 59th-ranked prospect overall is inching closer to the bigs, but with Francisco Lindor blocking him at short it's uncertain where he would fit in. Managers in need of steals will need to be ready once he earns the promotion.

New York Mets starting pitcher Luis Severino teased a no-hitter in Monday's 3-1 loss to the visiting Chicago Cubs, spinning eight innings of one-run ball on one hit and two walks with five strikeouts. Chicago's offense offered little to no resistance up until the late stages of the game, but Dansby Swanson's bloop single in the eighth inning broke up the no-hit bid to spoil a masterful performance out of Severino. It still added to a great start to the campaign for the 30-year-old right-hander, however, who looks revived in the early stages of the year following a strong spring training and now owns a 2.31 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 31:11 K:BB through six regular-season starts (35 innings) for the Mets. Severino will take a ton of momentum into his next scheduled start on Saturday on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays, where he'll remain worth deploying in all mixed fantasy leagues.

Marte is missing his third straight game on Monday against the Chicago Cubs after being placed on the bereavement list on Saturday. Fantasy managers will want to check back on Tuesday, but the 35-year-old veteran should be back in New York's starting lineup to face Cubs right-hander Javier Assad. Tyrone Taylor, who is making a third straight start on Monday with Marte away from the team, will head back to the Mets' bench when Marte returns. Marte has been able to stay healthy so far in 2024 and has been solid for his fantasy managers with a .288 batting average (30-for-104) with four home runs, 12 RBI, six stolen bases and 16 runs scored in 25 games.
