Rangers Acquire Daniel Duarte From Reds

The Texas Rangers acquired right-hander Daniel Duarte from the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations. The Rangers now have 40 players on the major-league roster. Duarte's season ended early last year due to a shoulder injury, and it's unclear if he's going to be ready for spring training. The 27-year-old Mexican pitcher had a 3.69 ERA (5.84 FIP) and 1.39 WHIP while walking 20 and striking out 23 in 31 2/3 innings over 31 appearances out of Cincinnati's bullpen in 2023. He's only thrown 34 1/3 innings at the big-league level over the last two seasons and is most likely to begin the 2024 regular season in minor leagues in the Rangers organization as relief depth.

Three Teams Showing Interest In Carlos Santana

The Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners are showing interest in free-agent first baseman Carlos Santana. Santana played with the Pirates and Brewers this past season, hitting a combined .240/.318/.429 with 23 home runs, 33 doubles, a triple, 86 RBI, six stolen bases and 78 runs scored in 146 total games. The 37-year-old veteran Dominican switch-hitter played for Seattle in 2022. Santana was no slouch offensively last year for the Pirates and Brew Crew, but fantasy managers should be ecstatic if he's able to duplicate those numbers in 2024. Santana has been durable and will continue to draw his fair share of walks, but there's limited offensive upside as he nears the end of his career. His best bet for regular playing time will be with the rebuilding Pirates.

Mets Claim Diego Castillo Off Waivers From Diamondbacks

The New York Mets claimed infielder Diego Castillo off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday. Castillo was dropped from Arizona's 40-man roster this offseason when the team re-signed Lourdes Gurriel Jr. He had just one plate appearance at the major-league level with the Snakes in 2023 after hitting .206 (54-for-262) with 11 home runs, 29 RBI and 28 runs scored in 96 games in his rookie year with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2022. The 26-year-old Venezuelan infielder hit an impressive .313 (142-for-454) at Triple-A Reno, adding only three home runs, 72 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 124 games. Castillo will mostly likely open the 2024 season at Triple-A Syracuse as infield depth for the Mets.

Anthony DeSclafani Headed To Mariners In Blockbuster Deal

Right-hander Anthony DeSclafani is headed to the Seattle Mariners in a blockbuster trade that will see former Cy Young winner Robbie Ray heading to the San Francisco Giants while outfielder Mitch Haniger joins DeSclafani in heading to Seattle, joining his former club in the process. DeSclafani has spent the past three seasons in the Bay Area but injuries limited him to just 24 starts over the last two seasons after he posted a 3.17 ERA across 31 starts in his debut season with the Giants. The righty posted a 4.88 ERA in 19 starts in the 2023 season but an elbow injury cut his season short. In parts of nine big-league seasons, the 33-year-old owns a solid 4.20 ERA between the Marlins, Reds, and Giants.
