Anthony DeSclafani Undergoes Season-Ending Flexor Tendon Surgery

Minnesota Twins right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (forearm) has undergone flexor tendon surgery that will end his season before it begins. The veteran was recently placed on the 60-day injured list but will now look ahead to the 2025 campaign. The veteran went from the Giants to the Mariners in the Robbie Ray trade this winter before moving to the Twins in a trade that saw long-time Twin Jorge Polanco head to the M's. Originally slated for long-relief work and starting pitching depth with the Twins in 2024, DeSclafani posted a 4.88 ERA across 19 outings (18 starts) and 99 2/3 innings of work with the Giants last season and owns a career 4.20 ERA in 942 2/3 innings of work, most of which came as a starter.

Anthony DeSclafani Goes On 60-Day Injured List

The Minnesota Twins placed right-handers Anthony DeSclafani (elbow) and Josh Winder (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list on Thursday. The Twins also put right-handers Jhoan Duran (oblique), Josh Staumont (calf), Justin Topa (knee) and Zack Weiss (shoulder) and left-hander Caleb Thielbar (hamstring) on the 15-day IL to open the year. DeSclafani is dealing with a right-elbow strain and won't be an option for the back end of Minnesota's starting rotation for at least the first two months of the 2024 season. The 33-year-old was acquired in an offseason trade from the Seattle Mariners in January. He went 4-8 with a 4.88 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 20 walks and 79 strikeouts in 99 2/3 innings for the San Francisco Giants in 2023. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues can leave him to the waiver wire.

Anthony DeSclafani To Begin Season On Injured List

Minnesota Twins right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (elbow/forearm) will begin the season on the injured list. He will visit Dr. Keith Meister to evaluate the next steps on his ailing right elbow. The right-hander was shut down by the team early in the spring but has recently thrown bullpen sessions. He has yet to appear in a Cactus League game to this point, however. The veteran was acquired in a trade with the Seattle Mariners this offseason after tossing a 4.88 ERA across 19 outings (18 starts) with the Giants in the 2023 season. He was involved in a deal for Mariners left-hander Robbie Ray before being dealt to Minnesota in a trade that saw Jorge Polanco head to the Mariners.
