Edouard Julien Plays Long Ball Wednesday

Minnesota Twins second baseman Edouard Julien launched his second home run of the spring during Wednesday's 7-1 triumph over the Boston Red Sox. The 24-year-old launched a three-run homer off of Red Sox righty Cooper Criswell in the bottom of the third inning that ended the latter's afternoon. The long ball continued a hot start for the infielder as he's up to a .421 average (8-for-19) with the two homers along with a double and a walk across 20 plate appearances, good for a big-time 1.239 OPS. Julien also enjoyed a big spring for the Twins last season and he'll once again hope to parlay this one into success after he broke out with a .263 average alongside 16 home runs, three stolen bases, and an .840 OPS in his rookie season. He is an excellent middle-infield option in the 2024 campaign.

Bailey Ober Enjoying Nice Spring

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Bailey Ober has made two starts in the Grapefruit League this spring and been very impressive. In two starts thus far, Ober has allowed five runs (one earned), three hits, two walks and struck out 10. Seven of those 10 K's were in his most recent outing. Ober, 28, has had his fair share of injuries in his young career, but made a career-high 26 starts in 2023. In that span, he was 8-6 with a 3.43 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 146 strikeouts over 144 1/3 innings. Ober has quietly flown under the radar when health is on his side and with an ADP of 155, he should be able to return strong value in all formats.

Jose Miranda Could Play In Field Soon

Minnesota Twins third baseman Jose Miranda (shoulder) has gone 3-for-8 in Grapefruit League games this spring, all while serving as designated hitter. However, the 25-year-old expects to progress to the field early the week of March 4, with a defensive focus on first base. The former fantasy prospect dealt with right shoulder pain for all of 2023 and posted uninspiring numbers with both the Twins and Triple-A St. Paul. Miranda underwent surgery to clean up the scar tissue around the rotator cuff in his right shoulder at the beginning of October. While he may not have a big-league spot to start 2024, Miranda is worth keeping an eye on this spring to see if a healthier start can help him realize some of his potential.

Caleb Thielbar Throws Another Bullpen Session Monday

Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Caleb Thielbar (hamstring) threw his second bullpen session of March on Monday at close to full effort. The 37-year-old sustained a left hamstring strain during his conditioning exercises in late February. Thielbar performed well for the Twins last season, going 3-1 with 14 holds and a 3.23 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 30.0% strikeout rate in 30 2/3 innings pitched. His current role limits his fantasy value in most leagues, but his numbers do make him worth a look in deeper saves-plus-holds leagues.

Anthony DeSclafani Throws Bullpen Monday

Minnesota Twins right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (elbow) threw a bullpen session at camp on Monday as he continues to ramp up after the Twins shut him down at the starting of spring training due to right-elbow soreness. Minnesota is justified in wanting to slow the 33-year-old down in camp after DeSclafani missed time in 2023 due to a flexor strain in his right arm. However, the Twins are still hopeful that he can fill up a spot at the back of the starting rotation to begin the 2024 regular season. Fantasy managers shouldn't really be interested in DeSclafani after he went 4-8 with a 4.88 ERA (4.35 FIP) and 1.25 WHIP with 20 walks and only 79 strikeouts in 99 2/3 innings over 19 outings (18 starts) for the Giants last year. He already didn't miss many bats to begin with, and now he's an injury concern.
