Wilmer Flores In Monday's Lineup

San Francisco Giants first baseman Wilmer Flores (shoulder) is starting at first base and is batting fifth on Monday against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers and left-hander James Paxton. Flores was initially held out of the lineup after injuring his shoulder in the series finale against the San Diego Padres on Sunday, but the team's updated lineup has Flores in there. The 32-year-old Venezuelan veteran had a strong 2023 campaign in the Bay Area by hitting .284/.355/.509 with an .863 OPS, a career-high 23 home runs and 60 RBI in 126 games played and he's off to a 2-for-9 start with two RBI and three runs scored in the first four games of the 2024 season. Flores has just six career at-bats against Paxton and is searching for his first hit against the lefty.

Parker Meadows On The Bench Against Lefty

Detroit Tigers outfielders Parker Meadows and Kerry Carpenter are both on the bench on Monday with the team facing a left-hander. With Meadows and Carpenter on the bench, Matt Vierling will start in center field and bat leadoff, while Mark Canha will start in left field and hit fifth against New York Mets left-hander Sean Manaea. The 24-year-old Meadows started in all three of the team's first three games and went 1-for-10 with a triple and one run scored. Carpenter has been on the bench now for both games that the team has faced a southpaw, which will limit his fantasy appeal in mixed leagues after he impressed in 2023 with the Tigers. Jake Rogers is serving as Detroit's designated hitter on Monday in the series opener against New York.

Jason Foley Picks Up Another Save On Sunday

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jason Foley collected his second save of the season on Sunday, helping the team to a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. Foley didn't allow a baserunner and didn't strike out anyone either in his two-thirds of an inning. The closer job in Detroit may be Foley's to lose, as the 28-year-old has gotten both of the Tigers opportunities and converted both. It's helped that his main competition, Alex Lange, walked three batters and retired only one in his only appearance this year. Foley should be rostered in any league where saves matter at this point.

Wilmer Flores Removed From Sunday's Game

San Francisco Giants infielder Wilmer Flores (shoulder) was forced to exit early during Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. Flores suffered a left shoulder contusion when he fell into the dugout while trying to make a catch in foul territory. The injury doesn't sound serious and this shouldn't force Flores onto the injured list. At the moment, fantasy managers should consider Flores as day-to-day. LaMonte Wade could see more action at first base until Flores is ready to play again.

Alex Lange Has Forgettable Outing On Saturday

Detroit Tigers relieverAlex Langewalked three batters and struck out one while recording just one out in the team's 7-6 extra-innings win against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. Lange came into the game in the seventh inning and loaded the bases on walks, striking outYoan Moncadain the process. Lange avoided having any earned runs charged to him asWill VestgotEloy Jimenezto ground into an inning-ending double play. After throwing 23 pitches with control issues evident, it may be unlikely that Lange will pitch again on Sunday. The 28-year-old's next appearance will likely be in the Tigers' next series starting on Monday as they travel to Citi Field to face off against the New York Mets. Jason Foley notched the first save opportunity for the Tigers and appears to be the favorite over Lange to be Detoit's primary closer. Fantasy managers should add Foley in all league formats.
