Matt Vierling To Begin Rehab Assignment On Sunday

Detroit Tigers outfielder/infielder Matt Vierling (shoulder) has joined Triple-A Toledo on the road against Triple-A Worcester, a source told Baseball America's Emily Waldon. Vierling will get a few days of conditioning and is planning to serve as the designated hitter on Sunday for the Mud Hens. The 28-year-old has missed all of the 2025 season so far after landing on the 10-day injured list at the end of March due to a strained rotator cuff in his right shoulder. When he's finally activated, he should serve as a lineup regular for Detroit between the outfield and infield. In 144 games with the Tigers in his second season with the team in 2024, Vierling set career-highs in home runs (16), doubles (28), RBI (57) and runs scored (80) while slashing .257/.312/.423 while also stealing six bases. Fantasy managers looking for outfield depth in deeper leagues should consider picking him up if he's available on the waiver wire.

Andy Ibanez Steals Base, Drives In Two On Thursday

Detroit Tigers infielder Andy Ibanez went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and a stolen base in his team's 10-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday. Ibanez logged a pair of RBI singles in the contest, giving him a .229 average, two homers, six runs, 10 RBI, and two stolen bases across 48 at-bats this season. He has been hot of late, hitting .385 over his past seven contests, putting him on the map in deeper fantasy leagues as a potential streamer while he's seeing the ball well at the plate.

Dillon Dingler Hits Three-Run Home Run On Thursday

Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler had a big game in his team's 10-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday. Dingler went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer to help power the Tigers to the win. The second-year catcher broke a 4-4 tie with his three-run blast in the eighth inning, a shot that traveled 409 feet with an exit velocity of 101 MPH. Dingler is now hitting .291 with four homers, eight runs, and 15 RBI across 86 at-bats for the Tigers this season. He is setting up as a decent option as far as fantasy catchers go.

Shelby Miller Earns First Save

Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Shelby Miller was tasked with closing down the game in the ninth inning against the New York Mets on Thursday. Miller didn't have any issues as he threw a scoreless inning to hold a two-run lead in the ninth and earn his first save of the season. He only needed eight pitches in this one, but he also faced the bottom of the batting order. Miller hasn't allowed a run this season and has struck out 15 batters across 13.2 scoreless frames this season. The expectation is that he'll be in mix for saves alongside Kevin Ginkel and Ryan Thompson. The D-Backs are without Justin Martinez (shoulder) and A.J. Puk (elbow), so Miller could be worth a look as a possible source for saves.

Kerry Carpenter Resting Against Southpaw

Detroit Tigers outfielder/designated hitter Kerry Carpenter will take a seat for Thursday's series opener against the hosting Los Angeles Angels and left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. With Carpenter out, Riley Greene will serve as the DH and bat third, with Justyn-Henry Malloy starting in right field and batting leadoff for the first-place Tigers. Carpenter has gone 3-for-21 with two home runs, a double and three RBI in six games over the last week, and he's hitting .250 (6-for-24) with two of his seven home runs against left-handers this year. Make sure you remove him from your starting lineups on Thursday. Greene has never faced Kikuchi and has gone 8-for-39 with no homers, two walks and 18 K's against lefties in 2025. Malloy is hitless in just two career at-bats against Kikuchi and has gone only 10-for-53 (.189) with a homer, eight RBI and nine runs scored in the early going this year.
