2024 Team Stats

Detroit Tigers pitcher Ty Madden showed off his swing-and-miss stuff during Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics. The rookie right-hander came in after opener Beau Brieske threw a scoreless inning. Madden looked sharp as he struck out seven batters while allowing only one run over five innings of work. The Tigers might not push Madden too hard in September, but he's expected to be a big part of their future. He holds a 2.57 ERA and 10/4 K/BB ratio over three appearances this season. He probably won't be worth adding in fantasy leagues this season, but is someone worth keeping an eye on heading into 2025.

Detroit Tigers infielder Trey Sweeney put together an excellent performance at the plate during Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics. The former first-round pick has struggled early in his big league career, but had the bat going on Sunday. Sweeney took A's starter J.T. Ginn deep in the third inning for his third homer of the season. It would just continue from there as Sweeney finished the game 4-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a stolen base in the win. He's still not worth rostering in most fantasy formats, but maybe this is a sign of good things to come for Sweeney.

Detroit Tigers closer Jason Foley picked up his 21st save of the season on Saturday as the Tigers beat the Oakland Athletics 2-1. Foley replaced Sean Guenther with one out in the ninth, gave up a single and recorded one strikeout on his way to securing the save. Foley now has a 2.92 ERA and ranks 10th in the AL in saves. With 21 saves in 24 opportunities, Foley has shown he can slam the door shut when given the opportunity. His fantasy value is still held back by the limited amount of opportunities he has with the Tigers, but he remains a solid option when given the chance. Fantasy managers looking for help in the closer role may want to look at Foley for the coming week as he may have more opportunities than normal coming up with the Colorado Rockies set to visit Detroit this week.

Detroit Tigers reliever Tyler Holton shut down the San Diego Padres on Thursday to earn his seventh save in a 4-3 win. Holton was tasked with closing out a one-run game and did so relatively easily, allowing just a hit in his inning of work. It's been an interesting situation in the Tigers bullpen lately, as the team has been hot and provided plenty of save chances. Since August 26, Holton has three saves while Jason Foley also has three. Both pitchers have been excellent since the start of August, and it is unlikely that either will dominate save opportunities for the rest of the season. That said, Foley is probably the best bet to lead the team in saves.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadowshad a memorable Thursday night, belting a two-out grand slam to send the Tigers to a 4-3 win over the San Diego Padres. Meadows ended the game 2-for-4 with a run and four RBI. After his team was stifled by the Padres pitching all night, Meadows finally got to closer Robert Suarez on the final out of the game. Since his return from injury on Aug. 3, Meadows has been a solid contributor in all five categories. He is a decent deep-league option for the fantasy playoffs and could be a sleeper for next season.
