Welcome to a Sunday edition of MLB best bets! Matt Olson fell one base short of what we needed for a win last night, but today we’ll look to close out the weekend profitable! We’ll take a look at the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros series-finale at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners
The Astros will look to avoid being swept by the red-hot Mariners after losing the first two games of the series. The Mariners will be starting their No. 4 prospect Emerson Hancock, while the Astros will give the nod to Hunter Brown.
Jose Altuve will look to ride the momentum from his three-hit performance in yesterday’s loss. Altuve has been electric for Houston in the month of August, entering with a .422 average, .594 SLG and a 1.094 OPS. Altuve’s numbers in August are easily his best of this season, and today he gets a great matchup with the young Hancock on the mound.
Hancock has used his four-seam fastball, sinker and slider in his small sample size against RHB this season. Below, I’ll outline Altuve’s performance against those pitches.
Emerson Hancock vs. RHB | Jose Altuve vs. RHP |
4-Seam Fastball | .391 ISO, 4 HR, 10 XBH |
Sinker | .423 wOBA, 10 Hits |
Slider | .370 wOBA, 9 Hits, 1 XBH |

This afternoon we’ll back Altuve to keep his month of August going as the Astros try to avoid getting swept at home. Best of luck!
