Welcome to a playoff Sunday edition of MLB Best Bets! We are down to to our final four teams this MLB season! Tonight, we’ll preview the Texas showdown series, as the Rangers travel to Minute Maid Park to face the defending World Series Champion Houston Astros.
We’re set for a nice pitching matchup in Game 1, as Jordan Montgomery will take the mound for the Rangers, and the Astros will hand the ball to reigning AL CY Young winner Justin Verlander.
Montgomery and Verlander have both been great against the opposing lineups over the past two seasons.
In his last two starts against the Astros, Montgomery has gone 13 combined innings and allowed three earned runs with 14 strikeouts. He’s been efficient for Texas across his last five starts, averaging six innings with a 1.20 ERA. The success has been likewise for Verlander, who has pitched 26 innings against the Rangers over the last two seasons and allowed only five earned runs and racked up 29 strikeouts. Verlander has a 1.80 ERA across his last five starts and has won three consecutive games.
Though both of these lineups are more then capable of lighting up the scoreboard, tonight we’ll back the guys on the bump to continue their hot stretches on the mound.
