The college basketball season is in full swing, and Nick Makowitz is guiding you through each conference and giving you the best bets to make. Here, we look at a preview of the SEC Conference.

Who is Favored to Win the SEC Basketball Championship?

Tennessee is the favorite to win the SEC championship this season. After them, Alabama and Kentucky have the best odds to bring home the SEC title. Check out the list below for full 2022-23 SEC Championship odds.

Kentucky Odds to Win the SEC Basketball Championship

Kentucky is +500 to win the SEC Championship and has the third-best odds of anyone in the conference behind only Tennessee and Alabama. Oscar Tshiebwe is back after dealing with injury early on, and he’s living up to being the reigning National Player of the Year, but the Wildcats haven’t lived up to the hype of their preseason ranking. Kentucky played three high-profile non-conference games and lost all three to Michigan State, Gonzaga and UCLA. Still, the talent is there on paper, and John Calipari has made a habit of getting more out of his team as the season goes on. It’ll be an uphill climb, but we’ll see if he can rally the troops.

Who Can Win the SEC Basketball Championship?

Tennessee is favored to win the SEC with +195 odds, and Alabama (+250) and Arkansas (+650) are also legitimate threats to win the conference regular season title over Kentucky. All three, however, are dealing with significant injuries. Tennessee’s Josiah-Jordan James has been in and out of the lineup due to lingering knee soreness, Alabama lost Nimari Burnett to wrist surgery and Arkansas’ Trevon Brazile is out for the season while five-star freshman Nick Smith is out indefinitely. Still, each team has shown the ability to win without their respective missing pieces, but sustaining that throughout an entire conference season may be a different story.

Best Bet to Win the SEC Basketball Championship

Alabama +250

If Nick Smith were healthy, Arkansas would be enticing at +650, but he’s such a difference-maker that the uncertainty makes it too tough to bet on them. Instead, we’ll ride with Alabama, who may very well be the most talented team in the SEC. Brandon Miller has been the best freshman in the country this season, as illustrated by his 36-point explosion in a losing effort against Gonzaga, but it’s the Tide’s superb backcourt and their plethora of big men that gives them the tools to match up against anyone else in the conference. They’ve already knocked off North Carolina, Memphis and Houston, and their only two losses heading into conference play are to Connecticut and Gonzaga. This team is proven and battle-tested already.
