With the first two rounds of the Masters behind us, we’re headed into an interesting round at Augusta National Saturday. Justin Rose, the first-round leader, shot an even-par 72 in Friday’s second round. He enters the weekend as the 36-hole leader, one stroke ahead of newcomer Will Zalatoris and veteran Brian Harman. With Rose unable to increase his lead, there is lots of value left on the board.
Here are a couple plays on Tipico Sportsbook that I like heading into this weekend at Augusta:
Jordan Spieth (+425)
Last week’s Valero Texas Open champion is right in the mix heading into the weekend at Augusta National. Spieth is officially back. After poor play for what felt like an eternity, Spieth has shown us nothing but life over the course of 2021. He’s a perfect 7-for-7 making the cut at the Masters, with a win in 2015 and three additional top-three finishes. Even when he was showing poor form back in November, he was still able to manage a T46 finish. Spieth is coming off a second-round 68 and now sits two strokes back of Rose in the lead. Spieth is lurking on the leaderboard at Augusta and is the current odds-on favorite heading into the weekend.
Bryson DeChambeau (+3000)
After what looked to be yet another poor showing at Augusta following the first round for DeChambeau, he’s right in the mix. Thanks to his second-round 67, DeChambeau is currently in a tie for 17th, six strokes back of the lead. While six strokes may seem like a lot, anything can happen at the Masters. Augusta is expected to have the highest winds of the week in Saturday’s third round and rain in the evening. Having DeChambeau show life in the second round is a good sign. Don’t count him out just yet.
Matthew Fitzpatrick (+20000)
Let’s have some fun with a longshot. I wrote up Fitzpatrick in my original Tipico Betting Picks as one of my favorite plays of the week. He currently sits at even par on the leaderboard, following rounds of 74 and 70. If the weather strikes Augusta worse than expected, it only gives Fitzpatrick that much more of an advantage. He’s a European who plays well in the wind and is chasing seven strokes. Look for Fitzpatrick to make a move Saturday.
