PrizePicks for January 13

There are plenty of different props to choose from on PrizePicks, and there’s a lot of money to be made. You can pick your choice of NFL, NBA, PGA, MMA, soccer and more. As you’ll see below, I’ll be focusing on opening night in the NHL for this piece.

Speaking of “PrizePicks,” it is a creative new way to parlay picks based on expected fantasy point production.

The format is simple. You pick two, three or four players and predict whether they will go over or under their projected fantasy point total.

When parlaying the players, the larger your parlay, the better the payout:

  • Two-pick entry pays 2.5x (max entry: $400)
  • Three-pick entry pays 5x (max entry: $200)
  • Four-pick entry pays 10x (max entry: $100)

As a bonus offer, there is a “flex play” option if you choose to run a four-man parlay. This will provide some security, as you can earn 1.5x your buy-in if three of your four picks hit.

Below are my top PrizePicks for Wednesday’s NHL slate. I will be mixing and matching my pick combinations from the pool below, with my favorite combinations also included.

Scoring breakdown for PrizePicks contests can be found here.

Jan. 13 PrizePicks

NHL

Auston Matthews (5.1 points) — OVER

It’s hard not to like the over on Matthews’ fantasy point total given the success he’s had against the Montreal Canadiens. Matthews has 12 goals, 17 points and 50 shots in 14 career games against the Habs. We’re going to get 0.5 points for each shot and Matthews could easily put five pucks on net, which gives us a nice floor. If he hits the scoresheet we should get there.

Brayden Point (4.5 points) — OVER

As I wrote in the draft guide, Point was fade for me in season-long leagues due to the price tag and loss of Nikita Kucherov. This matchup is too hard to ignore, though, as Chicago allowed the most shots, scoring chances, high-danger chances, and goals at 5v5 last season. They enter 2021 without their captain Johnathan Toews and their starting goalie from last season in Corey Crawford. Tampa Bay may score five goals and if they do, Point will be in on a couple.
