MLB All-Star Game Showdown
Note: On DraftKings, don’t forget to uncheck “Remove Non-Probables” so you can see everyone who will get into the game.
First off, I want to state that this will be an incredibly random slate with limited pitches and at-bats for everyone involved. If you double your money, you should be happy.
I had a whole “edge” piece to this article about if the game goes into a Home Run Derby, as that is the new rule if there is a tie after nine innings, but DraftKings has decided that they will not count these homers. They clearly don’t like fun.
Pitchers
The only pitcher with over a 1K prop is Shane McClanahan. He is the most expensive arm but the 16th most expensive flex on the slate. His K prop is 1.5Ks. I will likely fade him.
In comparison, Paul Blackburn is $6,300 and has a K prop of 0.5.
No pitcher went more than one inning last year besides Corbin Burnes. He got 2K’s but allowed four earned runs. Only one pitcher got 3K’s, and it was Freddy Peralta in a perfect inning.
Nineteen total pitchers took the mound. Basically, you are probably fine fading the majority of pitchers, but you are going to need to nail the bats. I wouldn’t play more than one pitcher, and I certainly wouldn’t play them at the CPT spot. That would be dead money.
You can probably live with the reliever arms who are 6K on DraftKings. No, I don’t have a preference, it is completely random. They all have exceptional strikeout ability and will all face tough competition.
Bats
Only one player had more than one hit last year, and that was Xander Bogaerts who was in the starting lineup. There were a total of 17 hits in the game. The starters combined for nine hits, and the rest came off the bench. To me, this means do not make a lineup that is just starters.
It should also be noted that most of the starters got two ABs. Building a lineup with at least three starters makes sense, because they will have more opportunity, but there will certainly be a couple guys who make an impact off the bench (if we are calling it that in the All-Star Game).
