Summary
Elic Ayomanor is one of the less experienced receivers in this class, but he has had two impressive seasons at Stanford. Ayomanor was not highly recruited but exploded onto the scene right away, topping 1,000 yards as a freshman, a mark that was top 10 in the Pac 12. For good reason, this generated serious hype heading into his sophomore season, so his 831 yards was disappointing. On the other hand, this was not all his fault. It still led the team, and we also saw less than stellar play from the quarterbacks.
Ayomanor stands on a stout 6-foot-2 frame that generates plenty of explosiveness and power. At the release point, he needs to improve. He faced minimal press coverage. But when he did, he lacked consistency. In off coverage situations, he is much better using his tempo and subtle movements to set up defenders. He is technician-like as a route-runner, with good deceleration into his breaks and snapping off routes with authority. His double-moves are tremendous and will put a defender in a blender on soft-breaking routes. A spot for improvement is his re-accelration out of the hard-breaking routes, as this lack of explosion allows defenders to make up ground in man coverages. He is a natural void finder against zone coverages, especially in the scramble drill, where he is almost always in a spot to be available for his quarterback. With long strides and top-end speed, Ayomanor can stretch a defense with the best of them.
At the catch point, Ayomanor does so much right. He is a natural hands-catcher who extends to the ball and attacks it at the high point, and marrying this with good box-out techniques and strong hands make him a quality contested-catch player. He has also shown the ability to catch outside his frame comfortably and often. We also see him track the ball extremely well, allowing him to excel on back-shoulder throws and deep to intermediate routes. One of his best traits is working toward the ball at all times, opposed to letting it come to him. We do see some consistency issue with his hands, but I am not too worried about this.
Once the ball is in his hands, the strength and speed take over. He will much rather run through or around you than try to make you miss, which is fine because he can. We have seen him display the top-end speed to run away from chasing defenders on crossing routes and outrun angles in the second and third level. Ayomanor has shown enough quickness to be an effective creator on screens or shallow routes but does have room for improvement.

Fantasy Outlook
There is really no ceiling for Elic Ayomanor. He needs to refine his craft for sure, but the natural skills are all there to be a top target at the next level. This is music to a fantasy manager’s ears, as consistent top-12 seasons could be in the range of outcomes. However, there is an equal chance he never produces a single top-24 season. So when investing, go in with the correct expectations, but the natural talent is too hard to pass on in rookie drafts.
