College basketball season is in full swing, which means it’s time to search for betting edges on the hardwood.

Below, you’ll find FTN’s college basketball power rankings for the 2024-2025 season. These will be updated every week after games, adjusting for results, news and injuries. We can use these ratings to create a point spread between any two teams in the country on a neutral court. Just subtract the lower team’s rating from the higher-ranked team’s rating. If you compare that number to the spread of a particular game, you can find situations where FTN identifies a betting edge. We will also keep track of teams that are trending up or down, helping to further identify value compared to the public’s perception on media polls.

Here is the latest iteration of the FTN College Basketball Power Rankings for the 2024-2025 season!

Key Takeaways

  • They’re back! The Houston Cougars regain their top spot in the FTN CBB Power Rankings after a thrilling 92-86 comeback victory at Kansas in double overtime. The Cougars rank third overall in KenPom, including second-best in adjusted defensive efficiency. They are a perfect 8-0 in the Big 12 with a one-game lead over Iowa State and Arizona. Since joining the conference prior to last season, the Cougars are an astounding 23-3 against Big 12 opponents. They climbed one spot from the No. 2 position last week.
  • Tennessee is in the midst of the most challenging four-game stretch of any team this season. The Volunteers scored an impressive 68-56 win over Mississippi State but dropped a heartbreaking 53-51 loss at Auburn in a game they thoroughly outplayed the Tigers. Tennessee now faces both Kentucky and Florida at home, hoping to stay within striking distance of Auburn for the SEC regular-season title.
  • Baylor is struggling. The Bears simply haven’t received the expected transfer production from point guard Jeremy Roach and center Norchad Omier. The Bears have lost three of their last five games and barely escaped an overtime win at Arizona State. Baylor is getting eviscerated from beyond the arc, allowing opponents to shoot 38% from deep.
  • Purdue was one of the big risers of the week despite a shocking home loss to Ohio State. The Boilermakers blew a 16-point first-half lead, succumbing to a blistering 11-of-23 (47.8%) 3P performance from the Buckeyes. That loss, however, was sandwiched by two very impressive wins at Oregon and home to Michigan by 27 points.
  • BYU also saw a precipitous climb in our FTN Power Rankings, blasting up 10 spots to No. 16 overall. Despite still being unranked, the Cougars scored consecutive wins over Colorado and Cincinnati. BYU is now 4-4 in the Big 12.
