The Core and More: PGA DFS Notes for the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open

Share

Heading to Torrey Pines this week, power is the key to focus on for PGA DFS at the Farmers Insurance Open. With three rounds being played at Torrey Pines South, which can stretch out to nearly 7,800 yards, driving distance cannot be ignored.

Many times the public narrative won’t stand up to what the course fit numbers spit out, but that’s not the case at Torrey Pines. Alex posted the fit model in Discord earlier this week, and the driving distance adjustment is huge. The narrative lines up with the stats so how do we handle that for DFS purposes? One simple way to include this filter would be to visit the PGA Ownership Projections page and make sure all of the golfers you target are at least field average (0 or better) in the DD category.

This way we won’t overemphasize distance and end up with a bunch of bombers with no other Tour-level skills, but running this 0 filter will allow us to shift our focus to golfers with enough power to hang.

Core Targets

Sungjae Im

He doesn’t possess extreme power, but he is long enough and ranks second in the field in strokes gained off-the-tee over the last six months. He’s also one of the best long-iron players on Tour and that certainly helps him around here. He’s posted seven monster rounds over his last five visits to Torrey Pines. The only other golfers with more than 5 over that stretch are Hideki Matsuyama and Tony Finau. For Sungjae, he’s coming off a missed cut so we could see high-teens or low-20s in terms of rostership, which sounds great to me.
