The Core and More: PGA DFS Notes for the 2024 Tour Championship

The FedEx Cup finale is set to take stage this week at East Lake Golf Club.

We’ll see a small field of 30 golfers do battle with a freshly renovated Donald Ross design. These small field, no-cut events are often pretty boring for DFS, but the element of starting strokes this week leaves plenty of room for game theory. Let’s dive in.

Core Targets

Xander Schauffele

When you look at baseline skill and factor in starting strokes, I think it’s hard to overlook both Xander and Scottie. Playing both might be overkill but I personally want to plug in at least one of them. When you look at expected finish position points, they are nearly double the closest and that closest to them is Hideki who is a major wildcard with his injury. What makes Xander my preference over Scottie? Well, Scottie has lost 2-plus strokes to the field in six of his 16 rounds at East Lake, which is extremely rough for someone of his skill, while Xander has gained 2-plus strokes in 9 of his last 20 rounds in Atlanta. Schauffele is also first in adjusted baseline performance over the last three months so while Scheffler has him beat for the season, Xander has successfully closed the gap in recent months. Add in the $1,200 discount, and Xander becomes the main target for me.
