Moves to Make Now in Dynasty Fantasy Football (8/16)

It’s tough to trade in dynasty right now. We’re a mere three weeks away from the start of the regular season, fantasy managers are smitten with their rosters, and player values are relatively stagnant. Preseason value shifts usually occur in one of two ways: devastating injury or startling performance (good or bad.) There are no sells in this week’s “Dynasty Moves to Make,” all players you should want to acquire. A few buys and potential pickups, including a couple of (potentially former?) first-round busts.

As a reminder, buying doesn’t mean getting a player for Brandin Cooks and a copy of the greatest movie soundtrack of all time, Space Jam: Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture. When players are improperly valued, take advantage.

Dynasty Moves to Make: Buys

Brian Robinson Jr., RB, Washington Commanders

The offseason additions of Austin Ekeler and Jayden Daniels have hidden the true value of Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. Ekeler’s been known in fantasy circles as a PPR stud, thanks to his usage in the passing game during his time as a Charger. Would you believe that Robinson was the more efficient pass catcher last season? Check it out, per the FTN Fantasy StatsHub:

He was actually one of the most efficient in the league. Robinson saw 43 targets and led the NFL in yards after the catch per reception (11.4), yards per reception (10.2), yards per target (8.5), and was one of only two running backs to surpass 100 receiving yards in a single game (Bijan Robinson the other).

Robinson was more explosive in the run game as well, more than doubling his runs of 10-plus yards (19-7), including two touchdowns. Robinson had more rushing yards on one fewer attempt than Ekeler, a higher yards per carry, and bested him in every efficiency metric on StatsHub. Robinson has three-down-back potential; make a move for him before he shows on the field how much better he is than Ekeler.

Players I’d be willing to trade for Robinson 1 for 1: Aaron Jones, Tyjae Spears, Tony Pollard, Jaylen Warren

Daniel Jones, QB, New York Giants

This one feels gross. Even as a Giants fan, I have never been sold on Daniel Jones. Everyoneis out on him, and rightfully so. His career trajectory is more Mitch Trubisky than Eli Manning. The drumbeats for Jones to be benched grew louder with each underthrown pass in training camp. But as the summer has crept along, Jones appears to be shaking off some of that torn-ACL rust and making the throws he should, and a few that leave that itty-bitty ounce of hope that Jones is the Giants QB of the present and future.

I am not suggesting going out and overpaying for Jones. Heck, you shouldn’t even pay fair value. The only way that I’d be willing to trade for Daniel Jones is if he can be acquired at a substantial discount. That itty bitty ounce of hope does exist, for now. Plus, the beard has done something to him nobody can explain. Look what it did to Kay Adams.
