Jalen Johnson, Onyeka Okongwu Likely Done For The Season

The Atlanta Hawks say forward Jalen Johnson (ankle) has a Grade 2 lateral right ankle sprain and will be re-evaluated in three weeks, while center Onyeka Okongwu (toe) has undergone a non-surgical procedure to address ongoing inflammation in his left big toe and will be re-evaluated in four weeks. Unless the Hawks go on an unlikely deep playoff run, the timetables effectively rule out the two players for the remainder of the season. Their absences leave significant voids in Atlanta's frontcourt going forward, with Clint Capela having to dominate minutes down low and Bruno Fernando playing the backup center role in Okongwu's stead. Over 18 games without Johnson this season, De'Andre Hunter is putting up 16.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.7 steals, and 2.3 three-pointers per contest and has hit double digits in scoring during each outing.

Onyeka Okongwu Out At Least Another Week

The Atlanta Hawks announced on Monday that center Onyeka Okongwu (toe), following a period of unloading, has resumed individual basketball activities and will be re-evaluated in seven to 10 days. The timetable effectively rules out Okongwu for the remainder of most managers' fantasy seasons, meaning the 23-year-old big man can be dropped across virtually all formats. For leagues that still run through Week 24, Okongwu's earliest possible return date from his sprained left big toe would be April 9 against the Miami Heat. In his stead, Bruno Fernando has assumed backup center duties but hasn't done enough to warrant rostership during the fantasy postseason. Clint Capela, on the other hand, has reached double scoring figures in 12 straight games and submitted 10 double-doubles over this stretch. He'll be an excellent source of blocks, boards, and field-goal percentage the rest of the way.

Onyeka Okongwu Sits Out Sixth Consecutive Game Monday

Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu (toe) will be out of the lineup for a sixth consecutive game on Monday versus the Bulls. The talented big man has been limited to just two appearances since Feb. 12 due to a toe injury. Bruno Fernando will continue to roll as Clint Capela's backup. Centers typically get an even workload in Atlanta, and the pair will have a decent matchup on Monday. Chicago's defensive numbers are mediocre across the board, including against opposing bigs. Centers average 22.1 points and 14.6 rebounds per 48 minutes against them, shooting 56.7 percent from the floor.
