Next Fantasy Football Mock Draft: Are You Overvaluing 2024?
Close

What happens if you draft a bunch of rookies in a fantasy football PPR mock draft?

I found out.

This is a 12-team league with 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE and 1 Flex position with 16 rounds. No kickers or defenses! It’s a full-PPR format, and I decided to go with WRs early before pounding rookie RBs and TEs just to see what the team would look like.

PPR Mock Draft (June 2025)

Let’s just get right to it. Here’s the rookie-heavy team:

Pick Player Position Team Rookie?
1.09 Puka Nacua WR LAR No
2.04 Ladd McConkey WR LAC No
3.09 Chase Brown RB CIN No
4.04 Omarion Hampton RB LAC Yes
5.09 Jordan Addison WR MIN No
6.04 TreVeyon Henderson RB NE Yes
7.09 Kaleb Johnson RB PIT Yes
8.04 Brandon Aiyuk WR SF No
9.09 Cam Skattebo RB NYG Yes
10.04 Colston Loveland TE CHI Yes
11.09 Tyler Warren TE IND Yes
12.04 Tre Harris WR LAC Yes
13.09 J.J. McCarthy QB MIN No (Kinda)
14.04 Joshua Palmer WR BUF No
15.09 DeAndre Hopkins WR BAL No
16.04 DeMario Douglas WR NE No

We started things off with WR-WR. I will not every complain about a Puka and Ladd start to any draft, especially when I can follow it up with Chase Brown and Omarion Hampton – two of my favorite RB targets in Rounds 3 and 4.

We dip back into the WR well with TD-machine Jordan Addison in Round 5 before going a little crazy with RBs in the middle of the draft:

  • TreVeyon Henderson, RB – Round 6: The Pats did not draft this guy at the start of Round 2 with Mike Vrabel now at the helm to have him sit behind Rhamondre Stevenson. There might be some timeshare action, but that hasn’t stopped plenty of other RBs around the league from being elite in fantasy. Henderson is a high-upside pick in Round 6.
  • Kaleb Johnson, RB – Round 7: Here’s another high-upside pick. He joins a timeshare with Jaylen Warren and replaces Najee Harris, who went four straight years with 1,000+ yards and scored 28 TDs in that span. Warren is good enough to steal touches all year, but Johnson could realistically do exactly what Harris did – and then some.
  • Cam Skattebo, RB – Round 9: It’s a crowded RB room in New York, but it’s one ripe for the taking. Tyrone Tracy Jr. flashed great playmaking but it wasn’t consistent, and Devin Singletary is JAG.

And you thought we were done with the rookies? We went back-to-back rookie TEs in Rounds 10 and 11 before going back to the Chargers receiver room with Tre Harris in Round 12.

Did we need to draft two rookie TEs? No. But we’ve seen a rookie TE be a league-winner in back-to-back season (Sam LaPorta and Brock Bowers). This is what your team can look like if you try to guarantee getting “the” guy for 2025.

We finish up the draft with a string of veteran WRs, as our WR room is nice at the top but completely void of depth given the fact we went RB heavy in the middle.

Final Verdict on a Rookie-Heavy Mock Draft

I give this team a “meh.” There’s a ton of excitement and upside, but a bit too much overlap. Skattebo in Round 9 was a mistake. The back-to-back rookie TEs was fun during the draft but looks pretty stupid after the draft.

I think the first eight rounds of this draft look great – and there’s three rookies in that mix. So you can definitely go rookie-heavy in the first part of your draft.

But if you continue with the trend over the rest of your draft, let this mock be your warning.
