The bye weeks have arrived, which is even more difficult to handle when you consider how many key injuries there have been so far during the fantasy football season.

At FTN Fantasy, we have a Waiver Wire Tool that ranks the top waiver adds of the week, while also recommending the amount of FAAB you should use on each player. And every Tuesday, I’ll break down the top five players listed in the tool, giving you the best case for each highly ranked player. With all of the key injuries impacting fantasy rosters, being able to add key players off waivers is as crucial as ever.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 7

1. Tyrone Tracy Jr., RB, New York Giants

Yahoo! 45%, ESPN 45%

With Devin Singletary sidelined with a groin injury the last two weeks, Tracy has emerged as a key cog for the Giants offense. The rookie shined in Week 5, rushing for 129 yards on 18 carries against Seattle. And then he kept it going this past weekend, totaling over 100 scrimmage yards and a touchdown. Over the past two weeks, Tracy has logged just over 73% of the snaps and on Sunday night, the rookie handled 23-of-26 running back touches for the Giants. Tracy has earned more work going forward and while he isn’t suddenly delegating Singletary to a bench role, he should force the Giants to use both running backs the rest of the way.

2. JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, Kansas City Chiefs

Yahoo! 33%, ESPN 18%

The Chiefs were on bye in Week 6, so we have to go back to Week 5 here. With Rashee Rice sidelined, Smith-Schuster took on that role against the Saints, hauling in 7-of-8 targets for 130 yards. Other than Travis Kelce, Smith-Schuster is the only player on the Chiefs that can reliably operate in the same areas of the field as Rice. And with Patrick Mahomes averaging a league-low 5.3 intended air yards per attempt this season, Smith-Schuster should continue to see the second-most targets on this team for the time being.

3. Tank Bigsby, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars

Yahoo! 63%, ESPN 44%

Bigsby had already been cutting into Travis Etienne Jr.’s workload, who is now considered week-to-week with a hamstring injury. He played one snap in the second half Sunday, and while D’Ernest Johnson played more snaps than Bigsby, it was also a game the Jaguars were trailing throughout. Next week, Bigsby likely starts against a New England run defense that was just gashed to the tune of 180 rushing yards and two scores by Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce. Bigsby still leads qualified running backs in avoided tackle rate (43.9%) and yards after contact per attempt (5.9).

4. Josh Downs, WR, Indianapolis Colts

Yahoo! 48%, ESPN 49%

Josh Downs continues to benefit from Joe Flacco starting at quarterback for the Colts. Over the past three weeks, Downs is sporting an awesome 27.9% target share, and that rate is even higher when you factor in only Flacco’s pass attempts during that stretch. He’s been operating as the team’s WR1 and although he’s not on injured reserve as expected, Michael Pittman Jr. is still dealing with this mysterious back issue. Downs needs to be added in all leagues and makes for a viable PPR flex option going forward.

5. Ty Chandler, RB, Minnesota Vikings

Yahoo! 28%, ESPN 33%

Aaron Jones is dealing with a hip injury that initially resulted in a week-to-week diagnosis. We’ll see what happens this week, but we could see a spot start (or two) from Chandler, who dominated the snaps and opportunities once Jones left last week’s game in London.
