Joey Slye The Favorite To Win Kicking Job In New England

New England Patriots kicker Joey Slye appears to have won the competition with Chad Ryland for starting kicking duties to begin the 2024 regular season. Slye hit all four of his kicks at training camp practice on Wednesday from 33,41,47 and 50 yards out. Meanwhile, Ryland hit his 33-yarder and then missed his next three kicks. For most of camp, Slye was clearly the better kicker from distance, but now he's proving to be better from intermediate range as well. Two of Ryland's misses weren't close, and his third miss was a doink off the right upright. It remains to be seen if Ryland or another kicker is kept around on the practice squad as a second option if Slye struggles early on in 2024. The 28-year-old Slye has a strong leg but has made just 82.3% of his 32 field-goal attempts in five NFL seasons and will be kicking for an offense that could have a rookie QB starting as early as Week 1.

Treylon Burks Leaves Wednesday’s Practice Early

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks (undisclosed) left practice early on Wednesday after landing hard. As he was leaving with a trainer, he held his back/hip area but was still walking on his own. Burks, a former first-round pick back in 2022, has yet to play an entire season in the NFL, having only played 11 games in both of his first two seasons (due to head and knee injuries). Still, while he has played, he has been moderately productive, having caught 49 passes for 665 yards (13.6 Y/R) in his 22 career games. Even if Burks avoids a severe injury, he is mainly a dynasty league or deep-league stash for now.

Will Levis Expected To Start In Preseason Finale

Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis is expected to start during the team's final preseason game next weekend. Levis and a majority of the starters sat out of their second preseason game after getting in a few reps during the preseason opener. It sounds like the plan is for Levis to play around three or four series during their matchup against the New Orleans Saints next weekend. The 25-year-old is looking to build off his rookie season where he threw for 1,808 passing yards with eight touchdowns and four interceptions in nine starts with Tennessee. The Titans have given Levis the chance to be the full-time starter and show what he can do. The organization has made upgrades on offense, but Levis still remains a shaky weekly fantasy option in 12-team redrafts.

Jha'Quan Jackson Leads The Way Against Seattle

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Jha'Quan Jackson caught all four targets for 57 yards in the preseason win over Seattle. While the rookie didn't find the end zone like teammate Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, he still led all receivers in yards on the night. Jackson, the No. 182 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, has reportedly looked good in training camp. However, Tennessee has plenty of depth at the wide receiver spot, so he'll have an uphill climb to get targets during his inaugural campaign. The Titans will end the preseason with a trip to New Orleans to meet the Saints.

Tyrion Davis-Price Leads Eagles In Rushing

Philadelphia Eagles running back Tyrion Davis-Price took four carries for 28 yards and caught his lone target for no gain during the team's 14-13 win over the New England Patriots. The former San Francisco 49er did well with his touches but did not see playing time until late in the game and seems to be far behind Kenneth Gainwell and Will Shipley on the depth chart. The Eagles are looking to find their No. 4 back, and rookie Kendall Minton has been staving off Davis-Price for that final spot. The loser will likely land on the practice squad heading into the regular season. It will be interesting to see who gets in the game first during the Eagles' final preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings next Saturday.
