Rams vs. Seahawks Week 5 Betting Odds, Picks, and Trends

The Seattle Seahawks return home at 2-2 after a very tough road win over the San Francisco 49ers but playing in the NFC West, the schedule doesn’t get much easier. The Seahawks now have to host the Los Angeles Rams, who are coming off a home loss to the Cardinals and beat Seattle at Lumen Field in last year’s playoffs.

Despite playing at home, the Seahawks opened as slight underdogs to the Rams with both teams playing catchup to the Cardinals in the divisional standings.

Opening Odds – Rams vs. Seahawks

The Rams have opened as 1-point favorites in this NFC West matchup, and the line has remained steady despite most early action on the Rams to win and cover the spread. The Rams lone road game this season in Indianapolis, L.A. was 4-point favorites but failed to cover the spread, winning by only three.

As for the total, oddsmakers are expecting a shootout with the line at 53.5 in Seattle with 64% of early bets trending to the OVER. With both offenses’ ability to explode, early bettors might be on to something.

Quarterback Analysis – Matthew Stafford vs. Russell Wilson

Looking reborn in Los Angeles, quarterback Matthew Stafford has been showing through four games why the Rams decided to swap QBs with the Lions and ship Jared Goff to Detroit. He’s averaging just over 300 yards passing per game while sporting an 11-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Even though he still threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns vs. the Cardinals in Week 4, his yards per attempt was down to 6.8, which is nearly three yards lower than the previous three games, which they won.

As for Wilson, his passing yards in 2021 may not scream elite with 1,044 through four games but he’s been as efficient as ever with nine passing touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran in for a score in Week 4 vs. the 49ers which shows he can still affect the game with his legs just as much as his arm. He’ll have his work cut out for him vs. the Rams, a team he lost to in the playoffs last year at home. In that game in January 2021, Wilson was held to 174 passing yards and was sacked five times in the 30-20 loss.

Latest Rams Betting News & Info

After looking invincible through three games, Kyler Murray and the Cardinals shut down the narrative of the Rams being unstoppable. L.A.’s passing attack was limited, the Rams had two key turnovers that killed their momentum and the defense could not stop the run, allowing 249 yards on the ground. Coming into that game vs. the Cardinals, opponents were averaging 92.6 rushing yards per contest on that Rams defense.

That said, doubt the Rams at your peril because with head coach Sean McVay at the helm, they’re one of the top teams in the NFL in week-to-week adjustments. Los Angeles now faces a Seahawks team that is bottom-five in the NFL in passing yards allowed along with eight passing touchdowns through four games. Couple that with the Seahawks also ranking 31st in rushing yards allowed in 2021 (152 yards per game) and I think the Rams will be just fine on offense in this matchup.

Latest Seahawks Betting News & Info

If you look deeper into that Week 4 win over the 49ers, the Seahawks may not be as formidable as once thought. Seattle only had 13 first downs, were 2 for 10 on third down and averaged 4.3 yards per play. If you had told me before the game that Russell Wilson would only pass for 149 yards and the Seahawks would still win in San Francisco, I’d ask you to check into rehab.

As mentioned in the Rams section above, the Seahawks defense is bottom-five in most metrics like yards/touchdowns while also ranking 19th in points allowed per game. It could be argued they should’ve lost the Week 4 game vs. the Niners because QB Jimmy Garoppolo was lost for the second half due to a calf injury. All due respect to rookie QB Trey Lance, he still doesn’t look ready.

In order to beat the Rams, Wilson is going to need to summon more magic and on Thursdays, he’s been lights out. With Russ at QB, the Seahawks are 9-1 SU and 7-2-1 ATS in 10 games on Thursday Night Football with Wilson throwing 20 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

Rams vs. Seahawks Betting Picks – NFL Week 5

Most of the public action is on the Rams -1, and I tend to agree with them. As great as Wilson has been in primetime and Thursdays, he can only cover up for the defense so much and the Rams offense isn’t just a rink-a-dink operation. L.A.’s defense should be able to bottle up the Seahawks passing attack and we’ll likely see a repeat of last year’s playoff game when Seattle was limited to 20 points at home.
