Rams vs. Colts Week 2 Betting Odds, Picks, and Trends

Week 1 carried a different storyline for both the Ram and the Colts, as the Rams bullied the Bears from start to finish, covering their spread and winning handily. On the flip side, the Colts only mustered up 16 points against the Seahawks defense, failing to cover their +2.5-point spread. Returning home may benefit the Colts, but they were only able to cover the spread in three of eight home games last season.

Opening Odds – Rams @ Colts

While I expected the Rams’ to be favored, I anticipated that they’d be favored by at least a touchdown. This makes the -4.5-point spread jump out as a nice early-week value. The absence of Xavier Rhodes showed its impact on the Colts’ secondary in Week 1, as they allowed Russell Wilson to complete over 78% of his passes, including multiple completions over 20 yards (and as long as 69 yards).

The total feels appropriate, as the Rams are a high-powered offense, while the Colts’ offense isn’t at an elite-enough level to push this total north of 50 points.

Quarterback Analysis – Matthew Stafford vs. Carson Wentz

Stafford got off to a hot start in his Rams’ debut, going 20-26 for 321 yards and a trio of touchdowns. The 16.05 yards per completion are downright elite, as Stafford looked like he simply unlocked this entire offense. To say this has made our producer, DeQwan Young happy, is an understatement.

Wentz looked good at times and he looked bad at times, as it took him 38 attempts to net only 251 passing yards and two scores, but he was able to escape without turning the ball over. 12 his completions and 15 of his attempts went to the running back position, showing that he’ll opt for safety rather than upside more often than not. He may be forced to do the same thing against the Rams on Sunday, as they were arguably the best secondary in the entire league in 2020.

Latest Rams Betting News & Info

The Rams put on a clinic on both sides of the ball on Sunday night, piling up 395 yards from scrimmage on the back of over 16 yards per reception and 4.4 yards per carry excluding Stafford’s kneel-downs. They also logged three sacks and five tackles for a loss while allowing less than 220 total yards through the air.

The Colts team has enough injuries on both sides of the ball where they could get blown out of the water here, especially if the defensive line gets to Carson Wentz.

Latest Colts Betting News & Info

The Colts failed to get much going against the Seahawks, both in the air and on the ground, as they failed to showcase their upside with so many new pieces.

The bright spot, however, was Jonathan Taylor. Not only did he look like his normal bulldozing self, but he also tied for the team lead in receptions (6) and, at times, made a stout defensive line look weak. If he can do the same against the Rams, the Colts may have a strain of hope.

Rams vs. Colts Betting Picks – NFL Week 2

While I do believe that the Colts have upside this season, I don’t think it starts here. The Rams defense is too good for the shaky quarterback play and depleted receiving group while their offense could give the Colts’ injured secondary fits.

Here are our betting picks for Rams vs. Colts in Week 2.
