The good news is an unlikely turn of events during Week 18 has landed Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs in what is expected to be Big Ben’s final season in the NFL. The bad news is the Pittsburgh Steelers have to travel to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the reigning AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs opened as 13-point favorites and the opening total was 47.

Opening Odds – Steelers vs. Chiefs

The Chiefs opened up as 13-point favorites, and the market quickly corrected itself to 12.5 which is currently the consensus number. There are still a few 13s around like at WynnBet, so make sure to shop around for the best line available. As for the total, the story is the same. After opening at 47, an influx of money on the under has dropped the total to a consensus line of 46.5.

Steelers vs. Chiefs Betting Picks – Wild Card Weekend

At the moment, most of the public ticket count, as well as the majority of the money wagered, is on the Chiefs. However, even after taking a lot of cash and tickets, the line actually dropped half a point. While I find it hard to bet against the Chiefs at home, and the Steelers are arguably the worst team in the AFC playoffs, I lean taking the points here. Mike Tomlin has brought this team too far to be embarrassed in Round One. Under no circumstance do I believe the Steelers win outright, but I do believe they will be covering 13 points. The Steelers do not have the firepower to win a shootout at Arrowhead, so I also like the UNDER in this matchup.

Steelers vs. Chiefs Betting Trends – Wild Card Weekend

Throughout the course of the regular season, both the Steelers and the Chiefs were 8-9 against the spread. As for the total, the Steelers have seen only six of their games go over, 10 go under, and one push. On the other hand, the Chiefs saw 10 of their games go over the closing total number and had seven games go under.

As noted above, the money, along with the ticket count, is coming in on the Chiefs and the under. While neither line has moved drastically, it is interesting that after heavy money coming in on the Chiefs, the line moved against them. Generally, when a sportsbook is taking respected money from a team, they will increase the spread, regardless of the ticket count. While almost all of the lines on the games are currently at or around where they opened, this is an interesting nugget to keep an eye on as the week progresses.
