(Leading up to the 2021 NFL season, FTN’s Tyler Loechner will dive into the fantasy football numbers to bring you his Fantasy Stat of the Day, five days a week.)
Never count your fantasy players out. When the clock is nearing zero at the end of a half, teams are often running a two-minute drill to get down the field fast. And that can sometimes mean your RB, WR or TE is getting peppered with targets on back-to-back plays.
Today’s Stat of the Day will take a look at which skill position players (RB-WR-TE) scored the most fantasy points within the final two minutes of each half last season.

A few thoughts:
- Tight ends can rack up the points during two-minute drills. Of these 10 players, five are TEs, four are WRs, and one is an RB. It was no surprise to see Travis Kelce’s name top this list, but it was definitely a surprise to see TEs take up half of these top 10 spots. But it makes sense when you consider that these two-minute drills often feature high-percentage passes over the middle, since defenses are covering the boundaries to force teams to use timeouts. And easy dump offs over the middle is where TEs can thrive.
- Alvin Kamara is the dumpoff king. He’s second only to Christian McCaffrey as a receiving threat at the RB position. The next closest RB to Kamara in this stat was Kareem Hunt (37.4 points) and Nyheim Hines (36.0), but other than that, no other RBs ranked in the top 20. Kamara can be safely ranked anywhere from RB2-RB5.
- Mark Andrews is Lamar Jackson’s most trusted target. Andrews had a big 2019 with a 64-852-10 line, but he took a step back in 2020 with a still-solid 58-701-7 line. But the big target did work inside of 2 minutes as the most trusted targeted for Lamar Jackson. Rashod Bateman has a chance to take over the mantle, but it’s unlikely to happen as soon as 2021. Andrews is behind the Kelce-Darren Waller–George Kittle tier, but he’s firmly in play as the TE4 off draft boards.
