Training camps provide our first look into NFL players and teams as we prepare for the upcoming fantasy football season. Information will now begin to flood our social media timelines, leaving us to determine the subsequent fantasy impact. It’s a matter of knowing which information matters, and which should be ignored.

So each day in this space, we’ll take a trip through the top news and takeaways around the league’s training camps to offer up what fantasy managers need to know as we head through draft season and into the 2023 NFL regular season.

Today, let’s review the major news from Wednesday, Aug. 2.

Alvin Kamara Suspension Imminent

Alvin Kamara met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge of breach of peace for an incident that took place on the eve of the 2022 Pro Bowl. Although Kamara avoided being charged with a felony, he has 30 hours of community service, while paying for the alleged victim’s medical bills. Reports suggest the meeting went well, but Kamara will likely face a suspension, probably between two and six games.

Cooper Kupp Undergoes MRI

After exiting practice early Tuesday, 2021 Offensive Player of the Year Cooper Kupp had an MRI to diagnose the severity of the injury. The results indicated Kupp suffered a minor hamstring strain that is unlikely to threaten his status for Week 1. Per NFL insider Adam Schefter, one source said Kupp could return as soon as a few weeks and take part in preseason scrimmages. Kupp is 30 and entering his seventh year in the NFL.

J.K. Dobbins Update

Baltimore RB J.K. Dobbins remains on the PUP list without a timeline for return. When asked about the running back’s status, head coach Jim Harbaugh said, “I don’t know. It’s a fair question. And there is a point in time when it does become a concern because — and he knows — J.K. and I talked last night. We talk a lot. He wants to be out, and he needs to be out there, just like any player does. Other than that, there’s nothing else that I can really add because I don’t know when he’s gonna come back. But I know I’m gonna be really happy when he does.” Dobbins had been seeking a long-term contract this offseason, entering the final year of his rookie deal.

Luke Schoonmaker Eyeing Return

Dallas rookie tight end Luke Schoonmaker remains sidelined dealing with plantar fasciitis but is reportedly trending in the right direction and getting closer to on-field action. Executive vice president Stephen Jones said, “He’s doing a hell of a job. I actually think he’ll be moving into practice here at the end of the week.” Dallas selected Schoonmaker in the second round of the NFL draft (No. 58 overall), after letting Dalton Schultz walk in free agency. Schoonmaker is coming off a career year in 2022, catching 48 passes for 418 yards and three touchdowns in his final season at Michigan.
