Conference Championship Betting Breakdown

Share

There’s no better time to get some sports betting action in than the NFL playoffs. Conference Championship round bets abound on this weekend’s card. Whether it’s sides and totals or player props, we have you covered here at FTN with our NFL betting models and NFL player props tool. But before we put some wagers in play, it’s important to know a thing or two about each of the two Conference Championship games.

Washington @ Philadelphia

Despite seeing each other twice a year in the regular season, these divisional rivals have only met once in the postseason. Washington won that contest 20-6 at Philadelphia in the 1990 Wild Card Round. However, this is the fifth Conference Championship game between NFC East teams in the division’s history. We have to go all the way back to 1986 for the last time it happened — the Giants defeated Washington in that one and went on to win the Super Bowl. Philly and Washington split their regular season series. Washington won 36-33 in Week 16, and Philadelphia won 26-18 in Week 11.

The Commanders haven’t been in a Conference Championship game since 1992. That’s a 32-year gap, matching the Bengals for the most seasons between Conference Championship appearances all-time. A win this weekend would make the Commanders the first team to make the Super Bowl after a 13-plus-loss season. Since the playoffs expanded in 1991, 6 seeds have made it to the Conference Championship game eight times.  Only two of them have made it to the Super Bowl: the 2005 Steelers and the 2010 Packers. The good news for the Commanders? Both won the Super Bowl.

The storybook season just keeps getting better for Jayden Daniels. He has a chance to become the first rookie quarterback to start a Super Bowl. He’s the sixth rookie quarterback to start a Conference Championship game. The previous five each had top-three scoring defenses. That isn’t true for Daniels, as the Commanders rank 18th. But it doesn’t matter when you play as well as he is right now. Daniels is the third player in NFL history with 500-plus passing yards, 75-plus rushing yards, four-plus passing touchdowns and 0 interceptions through two games of a postseason. The only other players to do so are Patrick Mahomes in 2019 and Josh Allen in 2021.
