BREAKING NEWS: Drew Brees announces retirement

In a move that surprises nobody, longtime Chargers and Saints QB Drew Brees officially announced his retirement Sunday.

Brees, who turned 42 in January, is an all-time leader in several passing categories and has four of the top five single-season passing completion percentages in NFL history, including the top three in 2017-2019. He was the quarterback for the Saints in their Super Bowl XLIV championship. He made 13 Pro Bowls in his 20 seasons.

His retirement leaves the Saints with a hole at the quarterback position. Taysom Hill is under contract for 2021, while Jameis Winston is hitting free agency but could return. The team could also look outside the organization.

Fantasy slant: With Brees announcing his retirement, the only quarterbacks the Saints have under contract are Hill and Trevor Siemian. The Saints may also bring back Winston on a team-friendly deal. During his brief run as the starter, Hill was the QB6 in fantasy points per game (21.5). Hill and Winston are both outstanding values in best ball right now with ADPs outside the top 175 players on Underdog Fantasy (Hill 207.9, Winston 186.4). Each quarterback has top-10 upside in the Saints’ offense that still has Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara and a top-five offensive line. — Derek Brown
