2024 Team Stats

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's 12-0 win against the Athletics. He also scored twice and singled. Toronto jumped on the A's early, with a massive eight-run second inning in which the veteran singled and scored on an Ernie Clement double. Springer would go yard the following frame -- his sixth dinger of the season -- to give the Jays an 11-0 lead. He'd been scuffling a bit at the plate, mired in a 4-for-41 slump over the last two-plus weeks, so it was nice to see him bust out of it. The extended cold stretch has brought his average down some, but he's still been solid, sporting 12 doubles, a triple, 19 RBI, 26 runs, and a 29:48 BB:K ratio in 52 games.

Toronto Blue Jays' right-hander Jose Berrios (2-2) earned the win on Thursday as the Blue Jays went on to win 12-0 over the Athletics. Berrios brought his best stuff, as he worked six innings, allowing zero runs, two hits, two walks, while punching out nine batters. This was Berrios' best start of the season, and he has now provided the Blue Jays with three straight quality starts. The brilliant outing lowered his season ERA to 3.86, and he now owns a 1.30 WHIP. He remains a middle-of-the-pack fantasy option for fantasy managers, as most of his actual numbers and advanced metrics rank league average across the board. The former 2012 first-round pick is slated to take on a tough Philadelphia Phillies squad in his next matchup, which is tentatively lined up for Wednesday at home.

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI in Thursday's 12-0 win against the visiting Athletics. The former fourth-round pick added a single and a double to notch his third three-hit performance of the month. It didn't take long for Clement (or Toronto's lineup) to get going -- driving in the Jays' first three runs of the game with his second dinger of the season off A's pitcher Jacob Lopez in the bottom of the second. Later in the inning, he knocked in two more with a screamer of a double to cap off an eight-run outburst. He's boosted his average exit velocity a bit in 2025, though it still puts him in the bottom 13% of batters (87.0 MPH). As of now, it doesn't appear that he'll challenge the career-high of 12 homers he set last year.

Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jordan Romano recorded his eighth save of the season in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Braves in Game 1 of a doubleheader. It wasn't a clean inning by any means, as he gave up one hit and walked three batters. He still managed to escape without giving up a run thanks to Ozzie Albies getting caught stealing. The 32-year-old has been shaky of late but still effective overall since gaining more responsibility in Philadelphia's bullpen after Jose Alvarado's 80-game suspension. Five of his eight saves have come since May 11, and there isn't much danger of him losing save chances with Matt Strahm and Orion Kerkering also struggling recently.

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Ryan Burr (shoulder) received a cortisone injection to treat inflammation/impingement in his right shoulder, and he'll be shut down from throwing for a few days, according to Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling. Additionally, reliever Nick Sandlin (lat) is scheduled to throw live batting practice in Dunedin on Friday. Burr experienced a setback with his right shoulder while on his minor-league rehab assignment on Monday, and now it's unclear when he might be able to rejoin the big-league bullpen. The 31-year-old veteran made six rehab appearances (one start) and had allowed five earned runs on six hits (one homer) while walking three and striking out 11 in seven innings at the rookie-level Florida Complex League and with Single-A Dunedin and Triple-A Buffalo. Burr tied a career-high with 34 appearances in Toronto last year and held a 4.13 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 47:12 K:BB in 32 2/3 frames.
