2024 Team Stats

San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez picked up his league-leading 18th save of the year on Friday, securing the team's 3-2 victoryover the Pirates. Suarez came on in the eighth inning after Jason Adam allowed a double and two walks to load the bases, but Suarez struck out Henry Davis to end the threat. The righty then pitched a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out two additional batters in the process. The 34-year-old has allowed six earned runs all season, five of which came in a single game against the Angels back on May 12, so he hasn't allowed any runs in 23 of his 25 appearances, posting a 2.22 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and a 20.0 percent K-BB%. With the Padres being one of the top teams in the National League, Suarez should continue to get plentyof opportunities to rack up additional saves.

San Diego Padres right-hander Matt Waldron (oblique) is working his way back from a left-oblique strain he suffered during spring training in mid-March and has made two minor-league rehab starts at Double-A San Antonio, according to MLB.com's AJ Cassavell. Waldron's next rehab start could come at Triple-A El Paso, and after that, the Padres might need him for a spot start or two with both Yu Darvish (elbow) and Michael King (shoulder) on the injured list. The 28-year-old knuckleballer allowed two earned runs on five hits while walking one and striking out four in 4 1/3 innings for San Antonio in his last outing on Sunday. He threw 37 of 61 pitches for strikes. Waldron had a short stretch of success last year but mostly was hit hard and finished with a 4.91 ERA and 8.2 K/9 in 146 2/3 innings. He has a low fantasy ceiling as a matchup-based streamer in deep leagues when he's healthy and starting.

San Diego Padres right-hander Yu Darvish (elbow) made his first minor-league rehab start on May 14 with Triple-A El Paso but experienced renewed soreness afterward and hasn't pitched in a game since. However, Darvish has been cleared to resume his ramp-up and played catch at Petco Park before Monday's series opener against the Miami Marlins, according to MLB.com AJ Cassavell. "He's in a good spot, and I saw a smile on his face," manager Mike Shildt said. "So he's making steps forward. We'll see where it goes." It's unclear exactly when the 38-year-old veteran might be able to make his 2025 MLB debut, though, after not appearing in game all year due to right-elbow inflammation. With right-hander Michael King (shoulder) also on the IL, left-hander Kyle Hart could stick around in SD's rotation for the time being.

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Tanner Scott entered Wednesday's game and got the final out of the seventh inning just fine, but stayed in for the eighth where he allowed four runs on three hits and one walk. Including the strikeout he got in the seventh, he recorded two outs and struck out two in the appearance. This was his fifth blown save of the season and his third in his last five outings. The 30-year-old now has a 4.62 ERA in 2025, which is a long shot from the 1.75 mark he posted last season.

San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill had a productive night in his team's 8-6 win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. Merrill went 1-for-3 with a solo homer, two walks, and two runs scored in the win. With the score 7-6 in the eighth inning, the second-year outfielder gave the Padres an insurance run in the eighth inning with his fifth homer of the season. After a breakout rookie campaign, Merrill is enjoying an excellent sophomore season, hitting .333 with 18 runs, 19 RBI, and one steal across 111 at-bats. He remains one of the top outfielders in fantasy and should be active in starting lineups every day.
