We’re only one week into MLB action, which means there is still over 95% of the season to go. Now is a great time to lock in some long-term investments as well as make a quick profit over the weekend.
With Prediction Strike, we can buy and sell players stocks much like the actual stock market, and in doing so we are able to create portfolios. However, unlike DFS or sports betting, these can also be long-term investments. Considering that long-term angle, we can take advantage of some of the things unique to baseball, such as players changing teams at an incredibly high rate over the offseason and hundreds of exciting prospects, some of whom may even make big impacts in the MLB this season. But with the increased size of MLB rosters and players who receive regular playing time, we get increased opportunities to find some overlooked diamonds in the rough.
Here are a couple of names to consider over at Prediction Strike.
Prediction Strike Pick: Joey Meneses, Washington Nationals (Weekend Buy then Sell)
There is very little to look forward to in the nation’s capital when it comes to baseball. The Nationals have one of the worst rosters in MLB with very few bright spots. One of those bright spots is 31-year-old Joey Meneses, who is this offense’s best source of power and their three-hole hitter. Meneses made an immediate impact in the second half of last season, slashing .324/.367/.563 with 13 homers in just 240 plate appearances. He is off to a slow start with no homers and just one RBI through seven games, but there might be an opportunity for us to make a quick buck here. Meneses’ price on Prediction Strike has dropped nearly 21% over the last week (down to $0.87) and they will spend the rest of the weekend (next three games) in Colorado’s friendly hitters park, Coors Field. Meneses and company will face two gas-can pitchers over the weekend (Trevor Williams, Chad Kuhl). Grabbing some Meneses “on the dip” is a good idea before they head to the west coast to face the Los Angeles Angels. Let’s grab Meneses before Friday’s games and sell after the weekend.
Prediction Strike Pick: Mookie Betts, Los Angeles Dodgers
Keep in mind that Prediction Strike is like playing the stock market. Everyone knows Mookie Betts is one of the league’s best hitters, but this is baseball where even top assets endure volatility. Investing in Betts (current price: $12.81) ahead of the Dodgers’ Friday date with washed-up southpaw Madison Bumgarner is a wise idea. Especially since Mookie’s Prediction Strike price has dipped nearly 4% this week and he is coming off an 0-5 game on Thursday that negatively impacted his market price. In 20 career plate appearances against Bumgarner, Betts is 6-18 with 2 HR and 2 BB. Bumgarner faced the Dodgers last week and served up five earned runs including a hit to Betts. We can handle this Betts market one of two ways: either buy in for the long haul or just buy him before this Bumgarner matchup and sell him afterwards. Either way, we’re talking about the leadoff hitter of one of baseball’s most prolific offenses this season coming off a season where he hit a career-high 35 homers.
