Before his IL stint, the right-hander had allowed seven earned runs in only six innings pitched while blowing multiple saves. It was unclear whether he would return to the closer role upon activation, given how well Jason Adam has performed this season, but Fairbanks seems to have locked down the closer role for himself once again. Fairbanks is worth starting in most leagues, but you can expect manager Kevin Cash to throw Adam into the closer role occasionally.

There may still be some situational pitching going forward, however, where Fairbanks is used in higher-leverage situations and not necessarily the ninth inning. On the season, the righty has a 5.73 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and a 16.7% K-BB% to go along with his four saves.

This is an excellent sign for his fantasy value as he looks to have a clear hold on ninth inning duties. Before suffering a nerve issue in his right arm, the 30-year-old had a high 9.00 ERA and 2.29 WHIP through seven innings. However, he has done very well in limiting hard contact with a 15.0% hard-hit rate and a perfect 0.0% barrel rate, which is a good sign for Fairbanks going forward. He remains a top option for saves on a Rays team that hopes to compete this summer.
