Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval (elbow) is expected to undergo season-ending surgery. The southpaw was recently placed on the injured list due to an elbow issue. After further testing, Sandoval was found to have a torn UCL and will likely need Tommy John surgery. If that happens, Sandoval probably won't be able to pitch again until the middle or late next season. He wasn't much of a fantasy option this season with a 2-8 record and 5.08 ERA in 16 starts. The Angels have recalled another starter yet, so we'll have to wait and see what they do with Sandoval's spot.
Los Angeles Angels left-hander Patrick Sandoval (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured with a left elbow strain. The Angels recalled reliever Guillermo Zuniga from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move. He exited Friday's start against the Los Angeles Dodgers after just 2 1/3 innings. Sandoval will be eligible to return from the injured list around the All-Star break. Before landing on the injured list, Sandoval owned a 5.08 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, and an 81: 35 K: BB across 79 2/3. Zuniga won't take Sandoval's spot in the rotation, and the Angels will look for a replacement for the southpaw in the next few days.
Los Angeles Angels left-hander Patrick Sandoval (forearm) left his start early on Friday against the crosstown-rival Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium due to left-forearm tightness, the Angels announced. Sandoval made it only 2 1/3 innings in this one, but he didn't allow a run while giving up two hits, walking two and striking out only one in a no-decision in an eventual 3-2 extra-inning victory. It remains to be seen exactly what the issue is for the 27-year-old southpaw, but forearm injuries usually always lead to a stint on the injured list, so fantasy managers might want to prepare for that. We should know more on his timetable on Saturday. Sandoval entered Friday's game with a 2-8 record, uneven 5.24 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 80 K's in 77 1/3 innings (15 starts). He's walked too many and given up too much loud contact to maintain any kind of consistency for fantasy streamers.
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval improved to 2-5 in Tuesday's 9-0 win over the Pirates. Sandoval pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. The 27-year-old has provided plenty of strikeouts but has been erratic and now owns a 4.85 ERA with a 10.38 K/9 rate and a 3.92 BB/9 rate in eight starts and 39 IP. His next scheduled start is a middling matchup against the Royals. Fantasy managers may want to keep him on the bench if possible until he can provide that he can pitch well consistently.
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval tallied 10 strikeouts in Wednesday's 2-1 defeat to the visiting Philadelphia Phillies, tossing five innings of two-run ball on four hits and two walks en route to a loss. It was Sandoval's first game with double-digit punchouts since 2022, but Kyle Schwarber's two-run single in the second inning proved to be enough to saddle the hurler with a loss on a day the Phillies struck out 18 times. The 27-year-old southpaw will take an underwhelming 5.91 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, and 38:16 K:BB over 32 frames (seven starts) for the Halos into in his next scheduled appearance on Tuesday on the road against the struggling Pittsburgh Pirates, who are scoring just 2.4 runs per game over their last 21 contests.
