San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Luis Arraez (undisclosed) looked to be shaken up after being thrown out at the plate while trying to score on Jurickson Profar's single on Monday night at Petco Park against the Houston Astros and appeared to be favoring his right leg. Arraez batted for himself in the seventh inning, doubled and hobbled to second base. With something clearly still bothering him, Tyler Wade was sent in to pinch run for Arraez. The 27-year-old appeared to be dealing with some sort of lower-body injury, possibly his knee, but he should be considered day-to-day for now until we know more specifics about his ailment. Before leaving, he went 2-for-4 with a strikeout to extend his hitting streak to 14 games while also striking out in the third inning to snap a stretch of 141 plate appearances without a strikeout. The Venezuelan remains an elite contact and average guy (.322) for the Friars.
San Diego Padres first baseman Luis Arraez hit a rare home run in Friday night's easy win over the visiting New York Mets at Petco Park, going deep for just the fourth time this season in the victory. Before tacking on an RBI single in the third inning of Friday's rout against New York, Arraez gave the Padres an early 1-0 lead with a solo homer to ambush Mets right-hander Paul Blackburn in the opening frame. The 27-year-old All-Star contact specialist hasn't been quite as good as he was when he won the National League batting title in 2023, but he's still batting a strong .309 (117-for-379) with four long balls, 31 RBI, 45 runs scored, and six stolen bases in 88 outings since joining San Diego earlier this season.
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Luis Arraez (thumb) revealed after Friday's extra-inning win over the Miami Marlins that he's been playing with a torn ligament in his left thumb. Arraez was examined by a doctor during the All-Star break and was told he could continue playing with the torn ligament, according to a source. It helps explain why the 27-year-old two-time batting champion sat out this year's All-Star game. The Venezuelan hitter is still hitting just over .300 on the season as a whole, but since the All-Star break, he's gone 18-for-70 (.257) with a homer, four doubles, six RBI, a stolen base and eight runs scored in 16 games played. Arraez doesn't do a whole lot for fantasy managers besides carry a high average, and his thumb injury could compromise his ability to rack up the hits the rest of the way in 2024.
San Diego Padres infielder Luis Arraez (thumb) is serving as the designated hitter and is batting in his customary leadoff spot on Friday as he takes on the hosting Cleveland Guardians and right-hander Tanner Bibee to start the second half of the season. Arraez didn't miss any time to close out the first half of the season despite dealing with a jammed left thumb, but he did skip this week's All-Star festivities to rest up. He's still one of the best contact and average hitters in the game, but Arraez has hit just .268 (11-for-41) with a double and two RBI in 10 games so far in the month of July, and his thumb injury will be worth watching as we begin the second half. Overall, though, the 27-year-old Venezuelan has a strong .310 average (122-for-394) and .342 on-base percentage for fantasy managers, but it has come with just two homers, 24 RBI and three steals.
San Diego Padres second baseman Luis Arraez (thumb) will not participate in the upcoming All-Star Game next week. The 27-year-old was held out on Sunday and appears to be dealing with a minor thumb issue. He's not going to take any chances and has decided to pull himself out of the contest. Fantasy managers shouldn't need to worry as it sounds like a minor issue. Expect the National League to name a replacement for him soon.
