The San Diego Padres have designated infielder Tyler Wade for assignment. Wade was competing for a depth role in the infield during camp, but fell short in the competition. During camp, Wade held a .209/.292/.349 slash line and tallied just nine hits across 19 contests. He hit just one double and a long ball. Instead, the Padres opted to keep infielder Jose Iglesias on the MLB roster instead. Wade will now pass through waivers before beginning his campaign at Triple-A. Last season, the 30-year-old appeared in 90 contests in San Diego and posted a .217/.285/.239 slash line. He generated a weak .281 xwOBA but showed a strong eye at the plate as he held an 18.6 percent strikeout rate. Fantasy managers in NL-only formats should monitor Iglesias' playing time as he could be a viable bench option if he sees consistent playing time.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, infielder Tyler Wade and the San Diego Padres have agreed to a one-year, $900,000 contract to avoid arbitration. The 30-year-old posted an underwhelming .217/.285/.239 slash line with just three doubles and eight stolen bases across 90 games in 2024. Despite his underwhelming output, fantasy managers should expect Wade to likely operate as a depth option for San Diego in 2025 and to see occasional starts at multiple positions across the infield. Given his poor output last season, Wade should remain off all fantasy radars heading into 2025, as he will face an uphill battle to find consistent playing time on a stacked roster.
