Eguy Rosario Clears Waivers, Outrighted To Triple-A

San Diego Padres infielder Eguy Rosario cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and has been outrighted to Triple-A El Paso, the team announced on Thursday. The Padres also selected outfielder Oscar Gonzalez to the major-league roster and optioned him to El Paso. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-hander Jhony Brito (forearm) was moved to the 60-day injured list. The Padres were reportedly trying to trade the 25-year-old Rosario, but he'll remain in the organization for now and provide infield depth in the minors. The Dominican debuted in San Diego back in 2022 and has only played in 48 games with the Friars since then, hitting .245/.283/.500 with a .783 OPS, five home runs, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored in 100 plate appearances.

Padres Looking To Trade Eguy Rosario

After designating third baseman Eguy Rosario for assignment on Thursday, the San Diego Padres are trying to find a trade partner for him, according to general manager A.J. Preller. Infielder Tyler Wade was also designated for assignment this week, but he cleared waivers and will remain with the organization. If the Padres can't find a trade partner for Rosario, it's unlikely that the 25-year-old would clear waivers. Rosario's chances of making SD's big-league squad out of spring training took a hit when the team added veteran Jose Iglesias on a minor-league deal in March. The Dominican infielder debuted in the 2022 season and has hit .245/.283/.500 with a .783 OPS, five home runs, 12 RBI and 34 strikeouts in 100 plate appearances in his 48 games played over three seasons with the Padres. Rosario could get a look on the big-league roster with a rebuilding team like the White Sox.

Padres Promote Eguy Rosario

The San Diego Padres have promoted infielder Eguy Rosario from Triple-A El Paso. Rosario, 24, has been a Top-10 prospect for the Padres over the past few seasons, but has struggled in his limited action the big-leagues. Rosario recently opened the season with the Padres, but was demoted on May 5. In his brief time this season, Rosario hit .250 with three homers and six RBI. For El Paso, Rosario was better with a .289 batting average with 10 homers, 35 RBI and five stolen bases in 36 games. Rosario is no longer as hyped up as he was a few seasons ago and is likely to be a bench player this time around. He is worth monitoring in deeper mixed leagues, but there is no need to run to the waiver wire to snag Rosario.
