USA TODAY baseball columnist Bob Nightengale reported on Tuesday the Toronto Blue Jays will "take a shot" at signing New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto once he becomes a free agent this fall. The Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, and New York Mets are expected to compete with the Yankees for Soto, who is hitting .293/.420/.585 with 37 homers, 96 RBI, a league-leading 110 runs scored, and five stolen bases in eight attempts with the American League East Division leaders, who acquired him in a trade with the San Diego Padres last winter. Fantasy managers can envision a Blue Jays lineup with Soto and Vladimir Guerrero Jr in the middle of the lineup if the Blue Jays can bring in Soto.
New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto will be the biggest free agent on the market this winter, and ESPN's Jeff Passan writes that high-ranking front office and ownership-level sources think that it will come down to a bidding war between the Yankees and New York Mets. The industry agrees the floor for Soto's next contract will be $500 million. The Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers and Angels could likely afford Soto but are long shots to make a real push. Believe it or not, the four-time All-Star will turn just 26 this October. He's already considered one of the best all-around players of his generation and has excelled in the Bronx, slashing .291/.421/.590 with a 1.012 OPS, a career-high 37 home runs, 95 RBI, five steals and 108 runs scored in 130 games played. It seems hard to believe that the Yankees will let him walk out of the Bronx, and if he does, it might not be to go very far.
New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto socked his career-high 36th home run of the year with five RBI in Wednesday night's blowout win over the visiting Cleveland Guardians in the Bronx. Soto set the new career high with a two-run homer off Guardians left-hander Joey Cantillo to give the Yankees an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, later poking a ball down the left-field line for a bases-clearing double to break the game open and give New York a 7-0 lead in the fourth frame of Wednesday's rout against Cleveland. Over his last 29 games, the 25-year-old perennial All-Star is hitting .321 (36-for-112) with 13 big flies, 10 doubles, 27 RBI, and 31 runs scored.
New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto continued his excellent offensive season in Tuesday's 9-5 extra-innings loss to the Guardians. Soto went 1-for-5 with a solo home run, a walk, and a strikeout. The 25-year-old got things started for the Yankees, lining a first-inning Matthew Boyd offspeed pitch just over the right-field wall to score the first run of the game. Soto has been just as good as fantasy managers were expecting, even better in the power department. He now owns a .299/.431/.603 slash line with 35 HR, 104 runs scored, 88 RBI, and five stolen bases in 562 plate appearances.
New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto hit a personal milestone in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the White Sox. The 25-year-old hit his first career three-home run game, going 3-for-4 with two solo home runs, a two-run HR, and a walk. Soto provided all of his team's offense, hitting all of his long balls over 103 MPH with the longest landing at 416 feet. As expected, Soto has been one of fantasy's top hitters and has benefitted from hitting atop one of baseball's best lineups. He now owns a .306/.434/.608 slash line with 33 HR, 100 runs scored, 86 RBI, and five stolen bases in 539 plate appearances.
