Los Angeles Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said that the team isn't overly concerned about first baseman Freddie Freeman's (ankle) injury that he suffered in the win over the division-rival San Diego Padres on Thursday night that clinched the National League West title. However, Freeman won't play in the final regular-season series in Colorado against the Rockies this weekend, but Friedman said he likely could have if the Dodgers hadn't already clinched the division. Freeman was on crutches and wearing a walking boot in the Dodgers' clubhouse on Thursday night during their celebration. The 35-year-old injured his ankle while trying to apply a tag at first base on a pickoff attempt. With the Dodgers having a first-round bye in the postseason, Freeman should be ready to roll when the Division Series starts.
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman left Thursday's game against the San Diego Padres in the eighth inning after suffering an ankle injury. Freeman was running out a ground ball and tried to avoid a tag at first base, but stumbled awkwardly and appeared to twist his ankle. He was seen after the game in a walking boot and on crutches. While the severity of the injury is unknown, the Dodgers will almost certainly take a cautious approach after clinching the NL West with a win on Thursday. In daily lineup leagues, be prepared to find a fill-in for Freeman for the final weekend.
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and a stolen base in Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Marlins. The 35-year-old now has a mini five-game hit streak going during which he's gone 7-for-19 (.368) with two doubles, a home run, five RBI, six runs scored, a 3:3 BB:K, and a stolen base. It's another strong season overall for the veteran, posting a .283-22-88-81-8 line with a .369 wOBA and 140 wRC+. He'll try to change his luck against Thursday's starter for the Marlins, however, who he is 0-for-6 off of lifetime with a walk and two strikeouts.
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman had a great offensive performance in Monday's 11-6 win over the division-rival Diamondbacks. Freeman went 2-for-3 with a pair of two-run home runs, five RBI, and a walk. The 34-year-old took Eduardo Rodriguez deep in the third inning, sneaking the ball just over the left-field fence. His eighth-inning blast off Slade Cecconi was more definitive, landing 435 feet over the left-center wall. Freeman, who has been a top fantasy pick for some time now, hasn't been quite as good this season by his standards. However, he has produced plenty of fantasy value, slashing .288/.383/.498 with 21 HR, 74 runs scored, 83 RBI, and six stolen bases in 549 plate appearances.
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that first baseman Freddie Freeman (finger) will be back in the starting lineup for the start of a huge series on Friday versus the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Freeman, who suffered a hairline fracture in his finger back on Aug. 17, has been held out of the last three games. It's no secret that the 34-year-old left-handed-hitting All-Star isn't 100% and might not be for the rest of the season. He's gone just 3-for-23 (.130) with two doubles, an RBI, two walks and seven strikeouts in six games since his injury, and it will be interesting to see how well he fares at the plate moving forward. If Freeman needs more rest days down the stretch, utility man Enrique Hernandez is the top option to replace him at the cold corner after doing so the last few days. Unless Freeman starts really struggling, fantasy managers should get him back in their lineups on Friday.
