Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that first baseman Freddie Freeman (ankle) is expected to return to the starting lineup for the deciding Game 5 of the National League Division Series on Friday at Dodger Stadium against the division-rival San Diego Padres. Freeman has been battling an ankle injury since the last week of the regular season and had to be scratched from the lineup for Game 4 of the NLDS on Wednesday. The 35-year-old almost certainly won't be anywhere near 100% for the remainder of the postseason, but he's going to tough it out for a winner-take-all game on Friday. The eight-time All-Star and former NL MVP has gone 3-for-11 with three singles, a steal and two strikeouts in the three NLDS games he's played in. Freeman's return will be a big boost to LA's already potent offense and will allow Max Muncy to head back to the hot corner.
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman (ankle) has been scratched from the starting lineup for Game 4 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday at Petco Park against the division-rival San Diego Padres. Max Muncy will move from third base to first base, Enrique Hernandez will move from center field to third base, and Chris Taylor will draw into the lineup in center field against Padres right-hander Dylan Cease. Freeman has been battling an ankle injury since the final week of the regular season but had played in each of the first three games of the NLDS, going 3-for-11 with two strikeouts and a steal. He appeared to aggravate his ankle injury in the Game 3 loss on Tuesday and will sit out a must-win game for the Dodgers. It's a major downgrade to LA's lineup. Taylor is hitless in his only career at-bat versus Cease with a walk and a strikeout.
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman (ankle) is starting at first base again and is hitting third in Game 4 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday against the division-rival San Diego Padres and right-hander Dylan Cease at Petco Park. However, shortstop Miguel Rojas (groin) will not play. Tommy Edman will start at shortstop and bat eighth, with Enrique Hernandez starting in center field and batting ninth against Cease. Freeman has been battling an ankle injury since the final week of the regular season but has toughed it out and played in all three NLDS games, going 3-for-11 with two strikeouts and a stolen base. He's had plenty of success against Cease in his career in 11 at-bats, recording five hits (one double), two RBI and two K's. Hernandez has also had some success against Cease, going 5-for-12 with a homer, two doubles, two RBI and three K's.
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman (ankle) is at first base and is batting third in Game 3 of the National League Division Series at Petco Park on Tuesday against the division-rival San Diego Padres. Freeman sprained his ankle in the final week of the regular season and was held out of the final series before the postseason. The 35-year-old had two hits and even stole a base in the Game 1 win over the Padres in the NLDS on Saturday but was pulled after two at-bats on Sunday due to ankle discomfort. Freeman surely is not 100 percent and probably won't be for the rest of the year, but he had a day off to rest up on Monday and is feeling good enough to start as the series shifts to San Diego. In 10 career at-bats against King, Freeman has only two singles, a walk and two strikeouts. He probably won't be a super popular DFS pick because of the injury, but he can still do plenty of damage.
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Monday that first baseman Freddie Freeman (ankle) was getting treatment on his ankle, and his status for Game 3 of the National League Division Series on Tuesday at Petco Park against the division-rival San Diego Padres is unknown. Freeman injured his right ankle over a week ago towards the end of the regular season and was held out of the final series of the season against the Colorado Rockies before returning to action in Game 1 of the NLDS on Saturday, when he went 2-for-5 and even stole a base. However, he was pulled after just two at-bats in the Game 2 loss on Sunday and may not be available to play in Game 3 on Tuesday. Losing Freeman, one of the best hitters in baseball, would be a huge blow to the Dodgers, who would likely add utility man Enrique Hernandez to the starting lineup if Freeman is unavailable. We'll know whether Freeman is available closer to game time on Tuesday.
