Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said that outfielder Byron Buxton (hip) is "getting closer" to a minor-league rehab assignment but is "not there yet." Baldelli doesn't expect it to be a long rehab assignment, but the expectation is that Buxton will be sent to the minors for at least a few games. It means that the 30-year-old outfielder isn't quite ready to come off the 10-day injured list, although it probably won't be long after he goes on a rehab assignment. When he does rejoin the Twins, Minnesota could ease him back into action in the designated hitter spot. Buxton has been out since Aug. 12 with right-hip inflammation. The former first-rounder hasn't stolen double-digit bases since 2019 and is now providing modest power (16 home runs and 49 RBI) when he's on the field. He was hitting .250 (6-for-24) with three homers, two doubles and five RBI in eight games in August before he went on the IL.
There still isn't an exact timeline for Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton's (hip) return, but he will be evaluated when the team returns home for their off-day on Thursday. However, head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta did not rule out the possibility of Buxton returning on Friday for Minnesota's series opener at Target Field against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals following the minimum 10-day stint on the injured list. Buxton did some running for the first time on Tuesday, having already been hitting, throwing, and doing outfield work since going down with right hip inflammation. The 30-year-old speedy slugger is slashing a resurgent .275/.334/.528 with 16 home runs, 23 doubles, 54 runs scored, and six stolen bases in 305 at-bats for the Twins this year and needs to be stashed in all fantasy leagues.
Despite not dealing with any structural damage, Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (hip) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Thursday. The Twins are calling up infielder Edouard Julien from the minors in a corresponding move. Buxton was pulled with right-hip discomfort in Monday's series opener against the Kansas City Royals, and the Twins made the move to put him on the IL after he was held out of the lineup for the third straight game in Thursday's series opener in Texas against the Rangers. There's no guarantee that the oft-injured outfielder will be ready when he's eligible to come off the IL on Aug. 23. In the 30-year-old's absence, expect Austin Martin and Manuel Margot to split playing time in center field. Martin is starting in center and batting ninth on Thursday against Rangers left-hander Cody Bradford.
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (hip) remains sidelined for Thursday's series opener against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field. Buxton was pulled from Monday's series opener against the Kansas City Royals at Target Field and will now miss his third straight game with a right-hip injury. The 30-year-old isn't dealing with a particularly significant injury, but the Twins haven't ruled out the oft-injured outfielder from landing on the injured list. If Buxton isn't able to rejoin the lineup this weekend, the Twins will most likely put him on the IL heading into next week. Austin Martin will make another start in center field on Thursday and will bat ninth for Minnesota against Rangers left-hander Cody Bradford. DFS gamers should have plenty of better outfield options to go with than Martin for Thursday's slate.
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (hip) remains out of the starting lineup again for Wednesday's series finale against the visiting division-rival Kansas City Royals at Target Field. Buxton will now miss his second straight game after leaving Monday's series opener with right-hip discomfort. The good news is that an MRI exam on the 30-year-old oft-injured outfielder came back negative on Tuesday, and he's considered day-to-day. With another day to rest on Wednesday, perhaps we'll see him back in the lineup for Thursday's series opener in Texas against the Rangers. Austin Martin is starting in center field and is batting ninth in Buxton's place on Wednesday versus Royals left-hander Cole Ragans. Fantasy managers playing DFS should be able to find better outfielder sleepers than Martin.UPDATE: Manager Rocco Baldelli didn't rule out a potential injured-list stint for Buxton. "There was some good news on the MRI actually. Symptomatically, though, I'd say he could feel better," Baldelli said.
