Nick Castellanos Homers In Victory Over Cleveland Saturday

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos homered in an 8-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday afternoon. Castellanos is now hitting .243 with 15 home runs, 53 RBI, three stolen bases and 48 runs scored on the year. Castellanos is hitting a robust .346 over his last seven games, with two home runs and five RBI. The Phillies acquired Austin Hays from the Baltimore Orioles earlier this week, but Castellanos figures to continue to see regular at-bats in right field for the NL East-leading Phillies.

Alec Bohm Exits Early With Bruised Left Ankle

Philadelphia Phillies infielder Alec Bohm (ankle) exits Saturday's game against the Cleveland Guardians with a bruised left ankle. It's unclear when Bohm suffered the bruised left ankle and was replaced by Edmundo Sosa in the seventh frame. Bohm went 1-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout before exiting early. The 27-year-old is considered day-to-day, and his next chance to return to the lineup is Sunday's series finale. Bohm is slashing .297/.354/.478 with 11 home runs, 71 RBI, 45 runs, and four stolen bases over 102 games in 2024. Sosa would see an uptick in playing time if Bohm were to miss any games and is on the deep-league radar after hitting five home runs and stealing five bags over 60 games this season.

Carlos Estevez Traded To Philadelphia Phillies

The Los Angeles Angels traded relief pitcher Carlos Estevez to the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. The Angels will be acquiring top pitching prospects George Klassen and Samuel Aldegheri from Philadelphia. Aldegheri is Philadelphia's #23 prospect and has posted a 3.23 ERA in 78 IP between Single-A and Double-A this season. Klassen is Philadelphia's #28 prospect and has posted a 1.97 ERA in 59.1 IP for Single-A and Single-A+ in 2024. Estevez was one of the top relief arms on the market this season, posting a spectacular 2.80 ERA in 34 IP while accumulating 20 saves for the Angels. With recent struggles from Phillies' closer Jose Alvarado, Philadelphia's need to improve the backend of their bullpen became apparent. Estevez should receive plenty of chances to make an impact late in the game for the Phillies, potentially even taking over their closer role. Fantasy managers should ensure Estevez is in their lineup as he should get quite a few more opportunities for saves with one of the National League's best teams compared to his prior situation in Los Angeles.

Ranger Suarez Heading To Injured List

Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez is being placed on the 15-day injured list due to lower back soreness. The move is retroactive to July 24 while left-hander Kolby Allard has been recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Suarez's spot on the 26-man roster. The 28-year-old has been among the biggest fantasy surprises this season as he has worked to a 2.87 ERA to go along with a 10-5 record and a stellar 18.5% K-BB% across 20 starts and 119 1/3 innings of work. For his part, Allard has yet to pitch in the big leagues the season and has endured a tough season in the minors, working to a 5.60 ERA across 19 outings (13 starts) split between Double-A and Triple-A. He owns a career 6.10 ERA in 245 innings in the big leagues.

Austin Hays Making Phillies Debut Saturday

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Austin Hays will make his team debut on Saturday against the Cleveland Guardians and veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco. The Phils acquired Hays from the Baltimore Orioles on Friday in exchange for reliever Seranthony Dominguez and outfielder Cristian Pache. The 29-year-old became expendable due to the logjam the Orioles have in their outfielder combined with the rise of several top prospects who have become regulars, particularly outfielders Heston Kjerstad and Colton Cowser, along with 2024 All-Star Anthony Santander. Hays has been solid in hitting .255 with three homers, a .711 OPS, and a 102 wRC+ across 63 appearances on the season. Still, he has been a low-end fantasy contributor in the 2024 campaign.
