Danny Jansen Activated From The Injured List

The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Monday that they activated catcher Danny Jansen (wrist) from the 10-day injured list and optioned catcher Brian Serven to the minors in a corresponding move. Despite being back with the Blue Jays, Jansen will start Monday's game against the visiting New York Yankees on the bench with Alejandro Kirk catching right-hander Chris Bassitt. The 29-year-old Jansen missed the opening of the 2024 season due to a small fracture in his right wrist that he suffered during spring training. He went 4-for-13 with a home run during his minor-league rehab assignment and can provide fantasy managers with some decent pop from the catching position now that he's healthy. If Kirk continues to struggle offensively, Jansen could become the primary backstop in Toronto.

Corey Seager Absent From Monday's Lineup

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager is absent from the team's starting lineup on Monday as they take on the Tigers in Detroit. With Seager on the pine to start, Josh Smith will play shortstop and bat fifth in the lineup against Tigers right-hander Reese Olson. Seager will get the day off on Monday after starting each of the team's last five games. The two-time World Series MVP is hitting .304/.400/.393 to pick up where he left off last postseason, but it's come with only one home run and five RBI in the early going. Fantasy managers will need to remove him from their lineups for Monday's action. Ezequiel Duran is also in the lineup at third base and is batting sixth. Smith has gotten a hit in his only career at-bat against Olson, while Duran is 0-for-1 in his career.

Parker Meadows Resting Against Rangers

Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows is getting the day off on Monday with the team facing the visiting Texas Rangers. With Meadows out, Matt Vierling will start in center field for Detroit and bat fifth against Rangers right-hander Michael Lorenzen. This will be the second time in the last three games that Meadows will start on the bench against a right-handed pitcher. It makes sense, considering the 24-year-old is ice-cold to start the year. He's gone just 2-for-33 in the early going and may have to get going soon if he wants to maintain a regular role as the Tigers' center fielder. Vierling has never faced Lorenzen in his career but has gone 11-for-37 (.297) with a home run and four RBI in his first 12 games for Detroit in 2024.

Edouard Julien In Lineup Against Lefty

Minnesota Twins second baseman Edouardo Julien is staying at second base and batting ninth on Monday against left-hander Cole Irvin and the Baltimore Orioles. This will be the second straight time that Julien has stayed in Minnesota's starting lineup with the team facing a southpaw. It will be a boost for Julien's fantasy stock if he continues to play every day, although his move from the leadoff spot to the nine-hole will make him a bat to fade in DFS lineups. The Canadian infielder does have four home runs in his first 14 games of 2024, but he's also gone just 9-for-46 (.196) with five RBI, a stolen base and seven runs scored in 52 trips to the plate. Julien has never faced Irvin in his career.

Anthony Santander Not Playing Monday

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Anthony Santander is not in the starting lineup on Monday against the visiting Minnesota Twins. It allows the Orioles to keep Colton Cowser in the starting lineup in right field while he hits fifth against Twins right-hander Louie Varland. Cowser is swinging one of the hottest bats in baseball right now and has started the year going 15-for-34 (.441) with four home runs, 13 RBI, two stolen bases and seven runs scored. The 24-year-old's hot start has made Austin Hays the odd man out in Baltimore's outfield situation on most days. Santander has three home runs on the year in 61 at-bats, but he's also hitting just .180 (11-for-61) in the early going. Cowser has never faced Varland in his career.
