Rangers Say Josh Jung Has A Fractured Wrist

Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy announced after Monday's 9-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays that third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) suffered a fractured wrist after he was hit by a pitch during the ninth inning. Jung exited in the middle of his at-bat after launching a three-run home run earlier in the game, and he was replaced by Josh H. Smith at third base. It's awful news for the Rangers and fantasy managers alike, as the 26-year-old All-Star is going to face some kind of extended absence following the setback. Jung was off to ridiculous start, too, hitting 7-for-17 (.412) with two homers, six RBI, and one stolen base covering four games. While he's sidelined, super-utility man Ezequiel Duran is worth a look in all fantasy formats for his positional versatility and likely everyday role at the hot corner for however long Jung is out.

Bryan Woo Resumes Throwing

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Bryan Woo (elbow) is throwing again. Following three spring training appearances, Woo hit the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his right elbow to begin the season and has just begun throwing again after a brief shutdown period. It's unclear just how far out the 24-year-old right-hander is from making his 2024 debut, but he figures to be an option for the M's by early-to-mid May. Woo was one of Seattle's top pitching prospects in 2023, totaling a respectable 4.21 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 93:31 K:BB through 87 2/3 innings during his rookie year. 2020 No. 6 overall pick Emerson Hancock is handling the vacated rotation spot for now, but Woo should be stashed in the majority of fantasy leagues with a pitcher-friendly ballpark awaiting him.

Brusdar Graterol Set To Throw Off A Mound

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) says he feels "great" and is scheduled to throw off a mound on Tuesday. Graterol started the season on the 15-day injured list with a sore right shoulder, and he'll look to progress to bullpen sessions sometime in the near future if all continues to go well in his recovery. After attaining a sparkling 1.20 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 48:12 K:BB across 67 1/3 innings with the Dodgers a year ago, the 25-year-old Venezuelan right-hander is set to occupy a high-leverage role upon his return and perhaps receive the occasional save chance. In the meantime, Evan Phillips has tossed 2 1/3 hitless frames and picked up two saves and should dominate ninth-inning work until Graterol returns to help LA's bullpen.

Kenley Jansen Available From Boston's Bullpen

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora says closer Kenley Jansen (back) is available on Monday for the start of a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics. "He had a great day yesterday," Cora said. Jansen was unavailable out of Boston's bullpen for Saturday's extra-inning defeat to the Seattle Mariners due to back tightness, but he's ready to roll on Monday if a save opportunity presents itself. After collecting an Opening Day save to protect last Thursday's win over Seattle, the 36-year-old All-Star should remain a solid fantasy closer this season as long as he's in Beantown. Jansen collected a 3.63 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 52:17 K:BB over 44 2/3 innings for the BoSox last year, but he has an expiring contract that could make him a trade candidate later this summer.

Matt Brash, Gregory Santos Making Progress

Seattle Mariners right-hander Matt Brash (elbow) threw a bullpen session in Arizona on Monday and mixed in some sliders. He hasn't started throwing at maximum effort yet but is making steady progress. Meanwhile, righty Gregory Santos' (lat) MRI exam came back clean and he began light baseball activities on Monday. There aren't any specific timetables for the return of Brash or Santos, but they are making progress. The 25-year-old Brash appears to be ahead of Santos in his recovery from injury. When healthy, both pitchers are expected to be key contributors in Seattle's bullpen in late-inning situations in front of closer Andres Munoz. Brash was a workhorse for the M's in 2023 with a career-high 70 2/3 innings pitched while finishing second among qualified relievers with 107 strikeouts.
